Once Upon A Thief...

Just a simple reminder of the affluent helping the poor only to have the poor steal from those wealthier then them.

That would be a thieves prerogative though, right? What I do not understand is how you can judge the principle of the theft by providing derogative remarks towards the weapon which was stolen, by stating that such a weapon should be trashed because it is not perfect. This comment can be understood as a form or elitism as most likely, other players would look at this weapon and feel differently towards usefulness and value, would you consider this a weapon for the trash barrel if it turned out to be loot from a Balron or Ancient Wyrm?

This is not a personal attack or anything, but since you have known thieves/thief for a very long time, I expected differently from you, however, I have yet to be surprised since my return again to this shard. I half expect to join and find out that stealing does not work on artefacts and the chance to steal anything is reduced by fifty percent. Such a shame how things are turning out on UOForever..

Is it not allowed for non theif players to rp as well? The whole scenario was a theif gloating about a shiny wep that he stole from someone showing it off. I wouldn't be doing my role as a snobby rich aristocrat by not bringing him back to Earth, yes?

I am really not sure lately Liberty, I seriously feel that things have gone or are going south for all shady brothers and sisters on this shard, similar feelings from previous shards and from experience, I have learned to trust those feelings well.

By shady are you referring to theives in general? Scripting has been the reason the class has taken so much grief.

What's there to script unless one is a battlefield, disarm thief? At a bank all one needs is a last target macro to "hit and run".

Scripting and non- scripting.. It does not matter what a thief does, eventually they always end up in the same spot. Scripting won't be banned because of others who rely on the scripts for more legit reasons, people will quit if UO Steam is banned because 'their' way of life has been ruined, but thieves always get the worse end of the stick in the end. I am sorry if you do not like the class, it was put into the game from release and a valid class, but I have never seen a class in any game ruined so much as I have the thief.

The laziness are the fixes implemented, instead of rectifying the problem a complete change to an area or the class is added and all thieves suffer because of a few. Same conversation different server.. Just remove the damn skill already and be done with it ;)

Study's have shown that people dislike theives more than murderers. Greed is the name of the game.

there is a deference between using skills put in the game and exploiting game flaws. But when it comes to thieves they pretend they are the same.

Items returning if guard whacked was a good change,

The PS change was not what I think was the best fix but a fix was needed to counter scripts.

Something still needs to be done to prevent script stealing relics.

The stealing and stealth mechanics of this server are very broken in favor of thieves. and IMO that's why the docks have a bank, because its easier than fixing broken mechanics.

Thieves are an ungrateful group as a whole, always quick to cry and call trammel when their most recent exploit gets fixed. While they grief steal regs and crafting resources, and abuse the pointless ankhs placed all over the place.

What do thieves add to the server that the staff should cater to them then?

And what exactly do you think the staff should change?

I'll never understand this. Thief A take some gold or even a good we, ppl hate him....Murderer B kills you takes all your stuff on top of your gold and good wep....which is worse. I mean seriously. I think ppl are more pissed off that not everyone can be a good thief on here, whereas anyone can make a red and take someone's stuff.. which is a different matter entirely.

Skills and counterskills. If you cry that thieves are OP, then you deserve to be robbed, because you haven't caught a glimpse of how this game works. If you have something stolen from you and cry about it, it's like getting PKed on your miner and crying you couldn't defend yourself. Stealth is OP. I'm sure every thief who was sniffed out by revealer would disagree. Stealing is OP. So are locked boxes. And on top of this, where is the Fuzz?? You have no cops here and you're utterly surprised the crime is running rampart. LOL! Someone's gotta be here to catch the criminals, right? No, we'll cry to nerf everything because we want a perfect template with 20 000 skill points that can do everything. Variety is the name of the game, and Garriot knew this, he built this world the way it is. Place one cop on every champ and there will be no thief there anymore. God, you people make my head hurt, I'm not supposed to think instead of yous.

Greed is the name of the game eh? People with meta-pets, they go-to spawns, completely obliterate everything PVM based and are now turning their attention to PVP which will eventually turn into a right mess. Bards, a few clicks of a few buttons using necessary skills and can earn at least 10,000 gold every ten minutes, craftsmen, they get all the bods, slayer weapons and everything nice and tasty. A thief can perhaps steal one item once in a while, sell it and have to resort to countless guard-wacks *not forgetting getting murdered a second time because perma-grey is not removed from guard wacks.*

As for hate, how many people can you legitimately remember from times gone by who have have farmed monsters and been a role model to others and become set in stone forever? One, two? How many looters, thieves and murderers can you remember? Two or three per server and countless others going back over the years. Thieves are just as much a part of the ecosystem as anyone else, yes there are bad apples who insist on ruining it for all the other legitimate thieves and those are the people which should be banned personally.

Your hate for thieves grows Liberty, I guess one burned you pretty hard in the past eh?

So implementing a script which automatically picks up power scrolls etc is a legitimate method of preventing script using? Do you think this is fair on legitimate thieves who play the hard way? It is? You mention script stealing relics, something needs to be done with how fast PVM has become, something needs to be done with way over-powered pets, bards who can solo the hardest of areas and other classes using methods to boost their overall damage to ridiculous amounts and you say that thieves cry? Tell me Messremb, would you not have something to say if your build was somewhat reduced in efficiency, would you not enter the forums, pitchforks and torches at the ready? No? You are just like 95% of thieves then who continue to take the rap.

Stealing is not broken, it is working as intended and has always worked this way, stealth on the other hand would not be broken if detect and tracking were changed to compensate. I can use both styles of stealth so this is not a major problem for me. As for thieves being an ungrateful group, I am probably one of a small group of thieves who will speak out for our class and I will defend this class until the day comes when the doors are locked shut and stealing is nerfed forever, until then I will continue to defend and point out the errors of other classes who are equally if not more broken than the humble thief.

What do thieves add to the server? With enough love and attention they give the server something like this -*Jakaro*- or Chad not forgetting Galad, how is this relevant? This shows that the server population is healthy and talent which resides on said server, damn, it even brings more people in from the outside. Two of those are not UOForever and perhaps not even a thief using the skill but the principles are the same, but one thing that I find highly amusing is; when someone steals something and posts it in comic form, everyone loves it and aspires to emulate what they see, when someone steals from someone and does not publish it in comic form, that person is defined as wrong, considered trash and denounced as some form of low life basement dwelling child with no skills. This is what I call complete hypocrisy at its' finest, let me be a common internet dweller and type this - Mirror>You.

I will try to explain this even for trammel dummies, at the cost of repeating myself:
Player regulation of thieves is way to go. Now that you finally have skills you need to reveal and kill dat feef, go and use it! As Darkarna said, everything is working as it should. Scripting at champs is uber bad, but put one forensics guy there who kills every thief in sight, and marvel about how simple it is and how stupid you all were. Sticky this please, so I can choke the living soul out of everyone who dares to post anything about how OP thieves are. Howgh!

Honestly I'm not greed driven ever. If that happens I'm less successful in why I am doing what I am doing. Blaine typically only steals when provoked in some fashion. If it is something he likes and wants to try to attempt to take in the first place I do usually ask for it first. Usually at that point I get flamed in some fashion by the person and then I wait for my chance.

Instant guard wack is the easy button on the issue. If I were being chased by a scripted NPC hunting me with skills and maneuvers to stop or kill me would be a lot more interesting. Just as outside of town people try to hunt you down whatever way they can, in my opinion, should be the same in town. The risk of a pass off is an exploit of humanity. If the item is marked as stolen and had a previous owner it is documented. Forensics is a horribly under used skill.

Lord British himself faced a thief and knew not what to do with the punishment. Stealing is implemented into the game where it could be just totally removed. Any time you loot a corpse you are taking an action of taking something that isn't yours in the first place, unless it was taken from you to start with.

I'd give two more abilities to forensics - 1. Pinpoint location of killer who is responsible for corpse, with approx coordinates of clue after clue (where he passed through) which would lead you to his location, or ability to recall close to him
2. If thief steals something and gets killed in two minutes since last steal by detective, said detective should have this item delivered to his pack, with name of previous owner (as evidence). There he decides if he keeps it as crooked cop, or gives it to previous owner.

Blaine the Gypsy

If I were to drop a repond/sub/vanq/supremely acc war hammer on the ground or a corpse everyone would be able to track that back to it's previous owner...
