Except if you want to use the 50k for a new char it means you can longer keep playing that night you already alotted freetime for UO.

I think your new players need to learn that this game requires them to farm gold from time to time... If not they'll most likely never stay.

Ridiculous to be talking about getting rid of the no cut zone. I mean do we want pvp on this server or not? How many champs get done a day and how many get raided by eqms?

@Tonedog how this solution: put a couple chars in eqms and farm on them.

@Shane I'd rather see player driven solutions to the red menace than heavy handed nerfs. Player driven solutions ARE out there and I think it's a bad idea to give in to stuff like this every time. Sometimes the squeaky when doesn't need grease it needs to be told to harden the fuck up.

Well put Karl, Easily the best solution to what I don't even see as a problem... I have only been here 3-4 months but Karl is absolutely right about this... Player driven Solution over Nerfs is the way to go with this.. There are Plenty of BIG blue PVM guilds you can join if that's your thing. What makes UO so great is the game being so heavily driven by its player base and not just changed in an hour by the devs... Instead of immediately complaining to the GMs about getting pked by 15 people, try doing something about it! Pick different times to farm, Farm at different spots other than the main PK routes, join a bigger guild with big alliances ( they exist!)... Is it annoying dieing to 15+ reds, sure it is.. But seriously... there are many ways to adapt to this.. Please lord don't Trammelize this server! The Stat system is perfectly fine the way it is now.

I see groups of EQMS every night I get on... I have died to their large groups many of times on my 3-4 man faction team the past week or so. I have died to their large groups while out on my reds plenty of times... But Instead of demanding the GMs do something about it, I am doing something about it by forming new alliances with other groups to even the playfield. This to me makes UO fun, id rather work to change something than just complain enough and things nerfed.

This is just my opinion but way they are doing is not breaking any game rules whatsoever, so a nerf is not needed. Hell they are even welcoming groups to form up to fight them. I am aware there are a lot of people on this server who don't enjoy the pvp side of things, but please don't nerf the pvp away from the ones that do just because people are not willing to adapt and make their own resolutions!

We supply our members with PVP stock(potions, regs, pouches, scrolls, armor, weps etc)... we also help members coming back from other shards who dont have chars get started up and help members with $ to try to buy their heads back but 50k is not chump change for anyone in EQMS.

Lord Gluttony has never been rich in gold rather rich in friends.

IMO: Anyone ONLY logging on to PvM, with no intentions of ever wanting to learn to defend themselves or participate in the PvP scene in someway, hurts the life of the server. Vice versa, if a persons' ONLY contribution is logging to play with a 20 man zerg it is just as detrimental.

Forcing players to be more involved with the REST OF THE GAME isn't a bad thing. Unfortunately, new players have a hard time adjusting to losing everything and we lose them before we can ever get them into PvP (certainly the most unique and exciting aspect of UO). But, if you are bringing players to UOF that only want one character and do nothing else with game, except to run with your 20 man zerg, it hurts the life of the server.

I enjoy the tactics and all the QQing from the leet players too, but you must see how that aspect (bringing in players who ONLY run with you on one character) can damage the life of a server. No?

A bag of regs and a lute might be worth nothing to you, but for a new player just out of young status it may constitute an hour of preparation only to be killed. So when Gluttony posts this:

I think the problem here is assuming EQMS is like the CoM kids who play 20hours a day and have been on UOF for 2 straight years.

EQMS is a guild full of the common man, most of us are old, have jobs/kids/wives/boyfriends(we have gays) and play just a few hours at night etc -- many of us have only been on UOF for 2 weeks now and are about as broke as anyone else. Most have 1 char, 2 at most and probably 100k total to their name. While we are organized and well led we are not rich/elite by any means.

I completely understand the sentiment, but the same empathy has to be felt for blues that may only have a few hours a week, whose goals are different, and don't initially understand the kill or be killed atmosphere (or at least enough to learn how to counter it--some people just don't belong on UO and they will figure that out quickly).

On some level we have to foster an environment that is conducive to a new players learning curve. I think the biggest question is: how do we strike a balance? I think, like many, that we are out of balance right now.

The great thing about EQMS is that as long as someone farms up the 100k(or 50k depending on their timezone) they are welcomed in and trained regardless of their current skill level. We are giving these players a chance to see PVP, a chance to have a guild that isnt full of 14 year olds or ragers, a way to have others to play with etc...

You can say that 100k is a lot of money but its $10 worth of donation coins... I've thought about making it higher but I dont want to limit my guild to only people who can afford to spend 250k etc....

466 replies to a controversial topic and we aren't even close to being locked... that has to be a record?

I've considered it a few times however, as soon as I do it gets back on topic and good conversation comes out of it. As long as that occurs I don't see the need to lock it as this point. Keep it on topic and debate/discuss like adults.

tl;dr there don't need to be any changes besides NOT giving gold back to the player that insta stats.. instead make it 100% a gold sink, possibly raise the cap to 100k and give people a reason to negotiate/make money off of reds.

You expect us to start now?

But seriously, the fact that both sides complain about the system means that it's pretty balanced as is.

I wish you were right but this quote from Shane makes me think it isn't balanced??

Great post, and yes we are well aware of the impacts of this.
We will be making some changes coming soon here as it seems the group of reds does not seem to want to part at all to make things more balanced.
They do play well, and behave well for sure. They just simply pk non stop it feels and we are at the point we are getting daily complaints about this large group.
It's really hard to make choices like this since ultima online directly pushes to be played with larger groups. However if there's no other larger groups to counter that, there is an imbalance. An imbalance like this can offset the entire server.
So we are looking at ways to remove no head cutting zones, and also possibly worse PK penalties as one of the larger problems is that these pk's, even if they die they have no loot barely, and instantly come back. There is an imbalance here and we will work to rectify it.

I doubt they'll change anything... there was the same heated debate when Adam first thought about changing the stat system and it resulted in everything staying the same?? Or was that when the no cut zones were introduced?
