Besides @Swayze I believe I've already implemented a player driven solution to your problem ; )

Regardless, sell threads are hardly any priority compared to PvP changes as far as longevity is concerned, at least in my opinion. More importantly, maybe staff could try to run polls for any PvP related changes rather than stealth nerfs. Trammel was a stealth nerf too ya know, and that's the biggest thing to ever ruin UO, and at the time, UO was bigger than it is now, with only sub-par games to go play instead... Jus sayin.

This is actually a significant portion to my complaint. A PvP thread with multiple ideas and solutions at the very least should be acknowledged. A simple "great ideas guys" goes a long way.

And just like a job posting you would hire the most competent.

Just going to have to disagree. I would not put anyone who I thought was less than 100% competent and trustworthy in the position.

I wouldn't put a job posting up. I would personally invite people who are what I want.

Then that's a solution. A job posting was just an example. There's is plenty of candidates in this community that would do a great job and there's no disagreeing with that.

Sure but I doubt they all want to spend XX number of hours a week moderating a bunch of whiny, thankless persons on THE INTERNET

Things stagnate...
I imagine the staff is just worn the fuck out.
The negative response to booty island and the bitching and moaning from EVERYONE about idocs, eqms, champ drops, stat loss, zergs, dono items, spell damage, factioners etc etc is tiring as fuck.
It's like being the baby sitter of a thousand cry babies (including myself).
I'd have more patience @Swayze. You and I have our history but we've always been cool for the most part.
Remember, this isn't a real game. It's a version of a game ran by fans of the game. And while i imagine the staff makes their profit, the time put into everything can sometimes seem not worth it. And more power to the profit. These fucks deserve it! Hell of a server! With amazing longevity!
Don't expect the world. If IRC is bugging you for an hour then just leave it or ignore certain people. UO has always attracted scum. Accept it and rise above it. In the end, it's a video game.

The IRC thing I have less of an issue with me, I ignore a lot of people on it, I was just thinking for the new player to the server. I could be a real turn off with the amount of garbage spewed on it.

If you're big concern is about the new players, do what I did with you a year ago. Create a guild and recruit MASSIVE amounts of (young)s and ppl returning to UO. Show them everything! Be patient with them.
I've ran THC twice, LSD and now PSP and everytime it all started the same way. Recruiting YOUNGS and showing them EVERYTHING

Honestly i think it's just that we are growing. We have successfully collected players from all over now and more are coming daily. This means some bad apples too.

Growing pains i guess you could call it, it is a never ending battle but i completely share this concern.
I hate negativity, and there are so many people posting non stop here that we try to weed out the best we can. You can understand why we can't always give a detailed reason as to why a thread gets locked or deleted, but 9/10 times its negativity or derailment.

As Sagan said above we have more mods than ever currently, more event staff and admins than ever... but we also have the most daily players than ever too.

We've been giving players the best of both worlds in a way for a long time and it's been heavy on us and just isn't possible with as many players as we have. Now i know that there's a reason you can't directly PM/contact the developers, admins, owners etc by name on any other large MMO.

We want to keep personally dealing with people as long as we can, but if things like this post of concerns becomes such an issue that players are seeing this as affecting over-all community vibes. Then we will have to change it up and do what we need to do.

Any other server of this size that has lasted this long, the staff either went Nuts, or just simply disappeared and i don't think anyone has really looked at the root problem. A small sized staff like ours cannot consistently help out hundreds and hundreds of people every day in such a personal manor like we have been doing. It really can grind you down. I personally get 4-6 pm's per hour between mirc/forums/email/pages/ etc. It really stacks up! haha

Some things we've been looking at:

I've been talking about a ticket system i want to get setup for staff, remove PM abilities, with option to show public each ticket for future references.

Adam has also setup a bug tracker system.

Adding more forum MODS, however this is tricky wicky. Maybe a public vote for this would be best. Any suggestions ?

Great post @Shane I really appreciate it.

To answer your question, I think it's a great idea. Identify a few candidates, gauge their interest in becoming a mod and then vote. The only concern I have is people are liked and disliked and I would be scared the results would be a popularity contest. Not to say that's a bad thing but it could cause issues down the line with giving them powers.

I guess i should add also that it's at the point that if i respond to one thread, i can goto bed, wake up, and its 5+ pages deep...
Also if i say anything in irc now my PM's light up across the bar, and people start asking questions expecting me to respond to each one in general chat.

So lately both me and Adam have shifted into the background a bit more and let the mods respond more.

Also everytime we add a staff member, we possibly lose a player. So that's something to swish over as well. I don't think we need more staff members per say with the exception of FORUM MODS, i just think we need a better system to handle the influx of suggestions, idea's, bugs etc.

I'd go for staff, but on creative detail. I don't think I'd do well with being staff other than hearing voices and placing my opinions to them. Considerations and analysis on how things are really. It wouldn't be any different from what I already attempt to do now.
