@Shane Why not have different types of butlers.
25k dono coins = best of the best can hold unlimited amounts of items and unlimited different types of items.
20k dono coins = can hold 100 amount of each item and only 20 different types of items.
15k dono coins = can hold 75 amount of each item and only 15 different types of items.
10k dono coins = can hold 50 amount of each item and only 10 different types of items.
5k dono coins = can hold 25 amount of each item and only 5 different types of items.

Its just like a car, if you want all the add-ons on the car then you pay a lot more for it. If you want the car but cant afford the high end then buy the cheaper version of it.
Just a thought.

for 25000 don coins is what, 185$? 185 dollars? For an item in UO? I don't understand how that can be a real statement. It is a fun game and all, but
I wish we had better ways to support the server so items wouldn't have to be dangled in front of people with such a high price tag, Why would it only be for pvp people though? Anyone that dies has to restock, be it to a pk in pvp, or a cow in the Brit cornfields, if you don't have get your corpse then its back to restock. Or like doing the champ thing tonight. Seems like something that would take away that tedious, outdated, time sink of restocking, that you say yourself makes many people hit the little x, should be more ready available. Seems like a really really cool item that can only add to the fun of the game!.Again, lol at how absurd spending 180$ on some silly trivial item for UO is in real life. Feels like I was in the twilight zone after reading that post.

175$ currently is the deal for 25k dono coins.
I agree with your thoughts thought, if we had other aspects on support, we would propose that and we are open to suggestions dude.

The ultimate thing is, even after reading all your guys comments....... and then
If we added this to the gold sink vendor for 5 mill, people wouldn't of remotely complained at all, yet it is the same thing. LITERALLY, you can buy this same thing for less than 5 million gold just by buying coins from players that do donate. Constant trades like that also keeps a strong trade community as a whole. I sometimes just don't think you guys understand the silver underline that applies to MANY of the things we add, implement or otherwise.

Seriously, at this point in our server life-span, i don't understand how you (few) people can question our additions. If we didn't know what the hell we were doing we wouldn't be here today straight up. We aren't idiots, and we wouldn't add things that would kill us obviously.

Relax, and either grind gold to obtain such items, donate for them, or just be quiet. It sucks i have to remind people of this every so often, but none of you aside from a couple of you in this post has been here for very long and that says a lot imo.

to ***** and complain about something like this makes me shake my head honestly.
Is it a true problem?, is that problem based off your own personal play-style issues, or is it a server-wide issue?... And finally... Do you have a solution?

We soon are going to implement a straight up rule, that if you do not have a solution to the problem you are bringing to the public spot light, then just don't post it.

Let's hear solutions.

Because there needs to be end GAME obtainables. Even though its a donation item, donation coins can be bought with gold, which keeps the entire community flowing and trades flowing as a whole. You may not see the larger picture (that has clearly worked for us almost 2 years going now)

We also don't want one of these in EVERY single house you can get, as someone brought up in the original post about butlers it is or comes off as a "lame" object. He isn't wrong, it is kind of lame.

However i felt the end game aspect of obtaining something like this countered the "lameness". This is about keeping people in game, longer, playing with the rest of you.

These people are concerned about the how or way you obtain this item for them self, when the real purpose is to make it obtainable for long term players, or large guilds to keep them playing longer, more often, and make playing or dying to a PK/Orange less frustrating.

Seriously, look at the larger picture here.

Place a second (or third) house. Fill house with nothing but "go bags" for each of your characters and there ya go. Instant improved Butler for the cost of a house. Can hold ANYTHING and is only limited by item count. Pretty sure this means the Butler does not offer any pvp advantage and is simply a luxury.

Yep, it does nothing super special but save a small amount of time, the same amount of time that is the decision of closing client, or not closing client.

In the end, like i stated above, it keeps people online, pvping/pvming/playing/whatever for longer, which benefits every single one of you.

looks like the Butler is most overrated item its only for lazy ppl get it.

its even a bigger advantage to have 2. or 3. Account rdy logged in full geared and you can have that for far less then 4 mil.

i love him but i dont use him for pvp i still change chars as its FASTERS . I only use him after fights are done to get all my chars rdy again.

Don't use him for pvp, only use him after fights are done to get all chars ready again. (After pvp?? even?) Still pvp..

We are going to have 2 max, 1 for mages, 1 for warriors. You won't be able to multi place.

But you're exactly right, it's for the lazy.

Honestly even if it were 5k donos, I still might not buy a butler. The time saved by doing a butler restock is worth very little to me, but clearly it must be worth it to others though. So it's not a bust.

At this point it is too late, but I think the best course of action for implementing butler vendors would have been a one time cost of whatever, plus a fee every time the butler was used. Want more utility more often? Pay by gold per use. Want a butler but won't use it very much? Go ahead and buy one because it's not so expensive.

Too late for it now, but I feel like that would have been the best overall implementation for both vets and (relatively) new players alike.

Yeah great idea as a whole, but costs more in the long run.
Guaranteed certain people would still be upset about it.

Basically since this has anything to do, what so-ever with donations, certain players feel blocked by it. Reality is, they just don't understand that those same donations got people here, and was invested here to keep up our image, development, and innovate continually after this long, and that the bottom line is, these donations are part of the reason they even found or were able to play UOF today.

The backlack of all the above, is that you can still obtain these items if it values to you with grinding and not spending a dime here.

Also, just get your guild together and share the cost. It's not as if you need one per character.... 5 mil between a guild is literally nothing.

I totally agree with you Shane, there needs to be end game items. Also there needs to be a way to keep the game moving forward aka rl money. I know the server is not free to you or your staff. I personally think its a great thing to have things like this in game. I was just trying to show there was a happy medium that would put more rl money supporting the game and making more players happy with an inexpensive version of the real thing.

Bromista

Grandmaster
That's a good point, since you can give others access it's very easy to share the cost between a group of players.

Really no matter what you do you're gonna have people for or against it, but the bottom line is always what matters and if they are selling...well there's no clearer indicator that you've done something right.

I see I am being attacked again as the OP with insinuations. I love how the focus of this is some players will ***** about anything, you should look at my total post count YTD and more importantly how many of those were complaints of any type to either staff or other players. If you don't feel like taking the time to do so, I'll ballpark this figure. 156 total message. 1 rant about pvp over a year ago. THATS IT..... So no I don't suggest too many changes or things too often. I have had problems with other things in the past but would not voice my opinion on small matters because I understand you guys have your hands full. But having said all of this, I feel like you are not handling yourself very tactfully as the "CEO" of this business with the use of such insinuation and sharp remarks. Basically you're suggestion to your players is "Relax, and either grind gold to obtain such items, donate for them, or just be quiet." I will leave this post alone now, so you don't have to worry about hearing from me anymore.

its a Slightly quicker restock? buy it or dont buy it lol. its a high end item (either donations or gold) you dont have to have 1 its not giving you a disadvantage not to have 1.

It's not wow you dont get given every new item for free just to keep you payin a sub...

Gamers these days seem to Feel they entitled to everything. you want it fucking earn it or pay for it

Bromista

I don't see it as entitlement, just a request for better implemention of a new thing.

It is apparent that a thing like this can't be changed once people have started buying them. But that doesn't mean we can't explore how to improve the implementation of future systems. This is custom content and it looks to to have been coded well, the hot topic is the price point and whether something that gives players an advantage in PvP should be such a high end item, possibly widening the gap between the handful of elite and new players.

I think that a pay by use system would have been the best overall idea. It would cost the players that use the restock system more frequently more gold than someone who doesn't use it very much. But you still have a hefty price tag, just one that is a little lesser barrier to entry, maybe 10k coins, coupled with a formula to determine how much is charged based on what is restocked and the frequency thereof.

Shane said he doesn't want a ton of these things, but I disagree. I think that would be good for business tbh. Lots a people would have jumped on 10k butlers, but not so many that it would have been a problem (speculation, obviously)...who knows.

Backtracking a bit, the proposed recurring cost of butler use is the same philosophy that applied to teleportation crystals. It was overlooked for restock butler. Maybe if we say hey, let's take a look at how we implemented these systems we can stick to a pattern to achieve greatness in all of the things that come to UOF.

Call it entitlement. I call it what the forums are for: exploration of ideas.
