i could only see Bolas with altered tamer mechanics.. and we all know what happend the last time they touched tamers :>
They cried like little bitches that life was unfair and they were the most mistreated of all groups (although they get more updates and goodies than any other single part of this shard) and continued to cry and point out that they are big donators unlike the pvpers until their parents gave in and yet again pampered them to shut them up? Is that what you are referring to?

A buddy and I were fooling around the other day with his tamer... I was easily able to run away from his dragon on foot... while it was attacking me. Are you sure some of the mechanics did not remain altered?

Btw, that should be the expected result of a tamed dragon not running so fast that a horse hardly outruns them.

This is missing the point though. In this fantasy world there is still "law and order". A murderer is a criminal and what they're doing is against the spirit of that, therefore there are penalties when caught... No one makes you choose to be a red so you can't really complain when you know the consequences going in... If you robbed someone IRL would you complain when caught that you shouldn't have penalties cause that's how you choose to live?

Understood. The only thing you shouldn't be able to outrun on foot is magic spells and fire breath. I think you may have just gotten too used to the accelerated rate of travel that UOF had for pets.

there ARE penalties for killing people, even without getting caught! since you are a criminal, guards won't protect you from thieves! even further, ANYBODY can attack you at will ANYWHERE and without penalty. since you chose to live outside the law, you get no protection from it. if you follows the laws, they protect you. if you break laws, they won't. are you getting the point now?

Yeah, I wasn't complaining it was just an observation. I thought it was relevant to the tamer bola conversation... as the way it is now, just because you get knocked of your mount, you can still out run the pets even if you're on foot.

You're the one missing the point obviously as your post only proved my point further.

Devs never said wands, if anything they hinted at proc-on-hit dexxer weapons/bows. How do people feel about this? Like say, 10% chance to cast low-level lightning (say 10-15 damage) on any given hit? Or 20-30% chance of mana drain? This is radically different and a totally separate discussion.

Wands:

They aren't that bad. What is the real difference between wands and purple pots? Not a whole lot. Also don't forget that when you arm a wand, you will be hit with a melee 100% of the time unless you happen to be a macer. There should be a charging delay if they do implement this though so that it doesn't become an automatic macro. They should also be affected by magic reflect.

Bolas:

Meh, they were pretty broken because they are a ranged item. I would rather see everyone travel on foot rather than put bolas in. It just gives another tool for the gank squads to abuse.

Stat loss / murder counts:

This one's a doozy. The short and long term counts are very much needed. With stat loss being tied to the number of short term counts. Punish murderers, don't punish people who have "murdered" to defend themselves from noto griefers and just lame people. Like if I see a Trin, I would like to kill them for hiding behind their blue status because they deserve it. Or a blue POWER or whatever.. There are plenty of justified reasons to take a count.

The issue I have with what was proposed, is the no stat-loss in the overworld but stat-loss in dungeons. It should just be one; stat-loss after 3 or 5 short term murder counts period. Or pay a fee (gold sink) to res based on the number of LONG-term counts multiplied by the number of SHORT-term counts.

Being red is punishment enough, if you have a populated server (we do), but it should be more expensive (gold, time, etc) the more ruthless of a murderer you are.

Weapon procs:

I like it, I guess. Current armor values are insane. The complaints about people only doing 10dmg with a vanq weapon versus leather armor are real. Unless the person is naked, weapon damage is laughable. Even a lumberjack with a vanq double axe doesn't do much more than an ebolt and I remember it hitting more like a flamestrike back in the day.

I would prefer weapon damage and armor go under the microscope. With people doing real testing, not just what you saw on 5 swings against your buddy in your house. Real test center testing, 1000 swings per weapon vs a variety of armor combinations.

Champs and RDAs:

I don't think they should be pvp areas. Sure we are all here for the Fel ruleset, but murdering is a crime and should be a crime everywhere. Even Khaldun and Bucs. I think those are pvp areas now because nobody wants to take counts with stat-loss so they were implemented to encourage pvp.. With the changes to murder counts these should be regular areas and you'll probably see a lot more action there. And a lot of the red on red variety.

We don't 'hide' behind our blue status. We PvP/Gank in FFA areas and against reds as part of our casual rp thing. I'm sure if you come to the bank in trinsic and find a guard they'll be more than happy to duel you. You do seem a bit obsessed with us though... You and noxxed and yagyu might be brothers?

I too really, really don't like the idea of perma-loss ANYTHING. It's not so much that I'm lazy, just of the newer generation that doesn't like to mindlessly/very boringly macro away skills over and over again. It feels archaic, there HAS to be a better way. It just becomes annoying and tedious. I would rather a temp loss even of 2+ days, at least then I could just play a different character for a while or take a break for a day or two, but perma statloss just means I am forced to sit in front of the screen macro'ing, over and over again, it would just kill me after long enough and sooner or later I would just quit/delete character and do something else.

The idea should be to take players out of the game for a while, like a time-out, which temp loss accomplishes. But perma loss is just like forced-video game torture.

Awww. The idea of changing up the ruleset seems to make some people all teary eyed. If you die, that's the game. If you loose your precious power scroll from a pk zerg group or whatever , that's just UO. Have we forgotten why OSI failed? The ruleset shouldn't be about controlling interactions with other players, I don't think. It is up to us to learn to defend ourselves and our treasure in this crazy world, not the programmers and GMs. Let them focus on balancing PVP and implementing awesome new stuff. If we get bolas, cool, it'll make something more interesting for a while. Same with wands everything else. If it is overpowered, go get a bola or a wand. I'm so tired of people complaining that 'its not fair'. That's life. Why should life in UO be any different that our amazing staff can't focus on keeping the game exciting cuz you got PK'd or someone stole something valuable from you? If you can't keep up with a dynamic, ever changing MMO that actually let's us interact with other players in ways that can substantially affect the future of the world we are playing in, then we have lost what we set out to get back when OSI decided to put in trammel. I trust the staff to do something if PvP becomes more about lightening wands than actual skill. Give them the freedom to tip the balance every now and again without fear of replying to rants about how much we dislike change in an attempt to keep the great player base we have. Sit back, relax, and enjoy what this staff does for us every day without being so critical every time they want to try something new because it will ruin the template you worked a week and a half to perfect - its just going to give you something to do next week, and isn't that why we are here?

All I can say is that I don't want wands and bolas. Everything else I am not concerned with because I don't pvp heavily so my opinion is biased somewhat. With that said, I DO find the magic weapons idea interesting, but it does become super item/luck based for dexxers.

How hard is it to read that you don't get perma stat loss UNLESS you REZ while over the 5 short count timer??? FFS

I have to agree with you. I know no body wants to lose stats, but with the ability to have several characters or reds it shouldn't be an issue to macro one while you play another or just pay for your head or macro your skills back up. Then again, I don't pvp a lot so maybe I am missing something.
