Would you still PVM....

So it seems the major reason so far people PVM is because its a way to get rich, make gold, make dem pixels, right?

So if PVP was another way of getting gold and becoming rich, wouldnt it encourage more people to try it out and get better at it?
not completely. one reason i take PVM over PVP is because i don't have to try hard.
with PVM, i can also catch up on my movies, I can read, I can cook, etc.

overall, the way open world pvp is in this game, simply doesn't peak too much of an interest for me (even if everyone I killed dropped 20k checks). I feel if they organized a way-too complicated queue system for teams, with MMR and a reward vendor with loot that wasn't crap, I could find more interest

Ugh... I was once at a Vietnamese picnic where this dish was served to me (except it was an ostrich egg so three times bigger) and believe it or not I took a bite, just to be a good sport and see what it was like.

My attitude toward PvP in this game is pretty similar.

As for the original question, it's all about dopamine: http://www.learning-theories.com/dopamine-games-motivation.html

I personally find PvM kind of relaxing, and satisfying in the way that popping bubble wrap can be satisfying. Also, farming seems to be necessary in order to obtain the resources to do anything else in this game. If there was a militias system with a paycheck and bonuses I would definitely give that a shot. I don't think PvMers are necessarily lazy or greedy. It's just that for some, risk is its own reward, while for others the rewards need to be more tangible or quantifiable.

Well said and sensibly thought out. Too many poster let themselves be carried away by emotions...Emotions, run very high on UO and egos are super fragile.

Btw super brave for eating that egg, a girl I knew from school brought some back from her visit home...I could eat the soup with quail eggs, which was weird too, at first I thought they were eyeballs...

People love the shit out of candy crush type click fests on facebook too. I hate to see the UO shard with the biggest population veer towards that game play mentality. But if that's what people want then I say its the right move.

I've played UOF for a long time and I've noticed that the richest PvM'ers grow bored and move on to something else. PvP'ers stick around because the challenges don't get stale.

PvM'ers who claim that incentivized PvP will ruin the economy don't understand or try to misrepresent how it could work. Punkte based systems prevent abuse and there are several other safe guards that could prevent abuse. Kingdom size could affect the benefits. Your punkte score must be a certain level to see any benefits. Basically, the system should prevent freeloaders from joining the winning kingdom without pulling their weight.. The larger the size of a kingdom could decrease the benefits attained. The goal should be to have the most successful kingdom while keeping its roster as small as possible. blah blah common sense game development stuff.

The reason I PVM is purely for fun and giggles. I never expect to earn much gold, I mean, most PVM situations usually end up in the worlds longest marathon and a bank with a little less storage than before. PVM is not for everyone though, going grey and getting guard-whacked is not everyone's cup of tea and seriously, death threats are a common thing. PVM is for fun, not for wealth.

Oh you meant Player Vs Monster, I thought you meant, Player Vs Mark which is PVP really.. Sorry, got confused a little.
There are monsters? And people fight them?!

I always wondered where people got all those goodies in their packs for me to steal. [emoji1]

I have gone through 3 years mostly PvM'ing, I guess for the love of the game. Would have been great to PvP more but my problem is my 200 ping which can't compete with the 50'ers especially with the recent casting speed changes. Sure some say 200's not that bad but you can't keep up in the long run.

thats like saying the event system with crystals or the event points system ruins the economy.

Are you serious?

Basically, if PVM is boring and pointless for you it should turn PVP a gold machine?
We are not talking about economy which is something completely different from the ecosystem e lol

If PVM, like someone mentioned, it's boring, the solution is not dodging this issue implementing PVP stuff.

I pvm because I can do it on my own schedule, I don't need to run around looking for other people in a dungeon hoping to get one good fight in in the hour I can play

pking/pvping in the "elite class" requires way too much time to bother with, and the scene is totally jacked with eqms shadowing every other guild in population and pvp a one-button-script-fest who cares about pvp?

for me the game is about nostalgia, farming stuff to place a bigger house or customizing or making new chars or whatever

my past 15 year old self can't believe me saying this now "it's not just about pvp"

i don't pk because I do not want to make someone do something they don't want to do. If you pk someone, you are forcing them to do something they don't want to.

I have nothing against PvP, if someone wants to do that, go for it. Just don't force others to do it. If EQMS, $, and the rest of the pvp guilds want to pvp, go for it. I love watching it but don't want to be apart of it.

I pvm because it is fun to me, I don't even do the end game type pvm. If I kill an orc I am happy. not for the gold or fame but just to kill the orc.

so what if participating in a PVP system(like factions, or militias) allowed you to monetary benefits as well?

Say for example by joining a militia, you got a base salary for participating(so even players to new to PVP would try) and then bonuses for getting kills or even dying(to encourage particicpation). Wouldnt that be a great reason for people who really "enjoy" PVM a reason to try out PVP?

I like this idea. On UOF I've pvm'd the vast majority of the time, but that doesn't mean I don't like pvp. Pvp is difficult on UOF. There was a shard once for pure pvp where you made a char and it had GM lvl on a number of skills you chose and you had a ton of free regs and gear in the bank, and I LOVED pvping there because I didn't have to worry about losing resources and could try different char builds without the investment of time. It's been so many years now but I still feel nostalgic for those times. It was so much fun.

Basically I'm too cheap to pvp here on UOF because I hate losing my regs, weps, bandages, potions, and armor. If there was a gold incentive that would make it more attractive for me. In the meantime i've just worked on accumulating a huge armory so that when I feel Ive gained what I want from pvm (still a long time to go to accomplish that) then i can pvp without worrying about the cost. Not getting gold for kills means that there is no reward from killing apart from the twisted psychology of it. If that was different I would be interested in killing players for sure. For now its like, there's a tangible reward from pvm - getting stuff - whereas there's a tangible cost for pvp, losing stuff.

However, if pvp became profitable like pvm maybe pvm would become really boring in comparison. I would also worry about inflation of prices.

No. You Tried it with faction bonus and none did even care about them. U cant Force people to pvp. Kingdom will probably fail if is base on your idea.

lol seems like he made this thread to either recruit more people , or to find more people to fight against whereas he already recruited 40-50% of the PVPers on UOF into 1 of his 2 EQMS guilds by using various recruitment tactics.

tldr ill sum up this whole thread for anyone who is joining late

Glutt has recruited most of the people who want to pvp on this server and is now lacking people to zerg so now his private staff member has directed kingdoms towards forcing pvmers to play orange toons and give him people to kill while all the time he sits on his fat arse and gets given gold for doin nothing.

I PvM regardless of relics or PS. Yeah just farming can get boring but I like the strategizing of bigger group spawns like champs and RDAs. I also like the risk being in a felucca realm that has the chance encountering PKs or raids.

...if it didnt produce gold or relics or other drops? Im trying to understand what peoples motivations for PVM are -- many people say they "enjoy it" but I wonder if they enjoy the actual PVM or if they enjoy getting rich?

Basically why do you PVM -- for fun or for riches?

I've only ever PVMd to grind skill.

I spit out my drink when Tard said PvPers stick around because the challenges don't get stale.

Lol great, thanks for that.

You just want more bonuses to your pking. This has nothing to with getting more people into pvp but making more gold while you do it. People who don't want to pvp wont do it for some salary but nice try.

For money, the occasional rare drop and the slow burn that is dexer talisman xp. #2 is probably the biggest pull. You don't just randomly get taming scrolls from tailoring, monsters can loot players, there are statues...I'd love to see more uncommon drops added for the average farmer.

I run a vendor on the side that generates cash but everything regarding that is very static. I know how much I can possibly make at any given time and nothing is a surprise except for sales slumps/getting cleaned out overnight.

It's funny, I spent 13 million on two dexer relics to make more money and, naturally, I'm poorer than I've ever been. I'm getting a little burned out on crystal farming ever since I turned in 29 and didn't get anything for it but I'll keep at it...spend more to make more is how it works, right?

I played uo in 99-00 on dial up and got roached many times by reds but loved it. I have been playing for just under a year and pvm mostly because it seems pvp is just macro one touch button stuff and usually 4 on 1. I need to pvm to make $$ to buy better stuff or do other things. I guess I liked the old days where u worked on a character to build them up - but even that is not a challenge as it seems with automation u can go away from your computer and gm your skills in a day or two. I have been wacked numerous times and I am ok with that as the adrenaline rush is what I like but it is Rez kill and gang up stuff with dick attitudes that sour the milk combined with lack of any manual skill that doesn't motivate me to really do Pvp. When the fuck heads do their thing I just come back with my thief to fuck with them back and no loss to me. Anyway - still love the game as there is so much to do all open ended.
