PvPeter running afk thief script screenshots

So, I had a 105 mining I was willing to lose in order to confirm rumors I have heard about PvPeter running an AFK thief script near the dock's gate under the name "Joohnny"
I was unable to get a screenshot of it with it *actually* in his pack because the second it was stolen, the macro had him bank it, which closed his pack on me, so I had to reopen it.
It's hard to be faster than a cheat program, sue me.
This cheater mentality is ruining the server.
Why is this legal?
Here's me with the PS while hidden to make sure nobody else messed up my experiment just a handful of tiles away. I kept getting revealed, so standing next to him could have set things off prematurely.

The second he stole the powerscroll, his macro sends him off and running to prevent you from taking back your rightful property, and banks it instantly. His pack is on the left.
I used an autosnoop script for this on a thief to prevent him from getting guardwhacked to see what would happen..

It is tough because, I am not sure where Stealing falls. If it is considered pvp (which I believe it is) then this would be absolutely illegal. If they dont consider it pvping, I am not sure he is breaking any rules. Maybe afk farming?

I talked to Eppy about it once, and he said he "didn't see how it was any different than scavenger" and my response was "because it's taking out of somebodies inventory." So he claimed he will bring it up, but yet PvPeter is still running his script, so I decided to make the matter a little more public.
And honestly, playing as a thief is primarily PvP role.

Autosnoop allows you to open someone's inventory without pulling up their paper doll at the push of a hotkey. It can be a little chaotic if you're in a crowded spot, because it targets the closest person. It's especially tedious around tamers.
It works via steam and razor. I'm not sure about sallos.

You're missing the point. Don't blame victims for somebody else's cheating. This would apply had PvPeter not been AFK.
He still hasn't moved since I tested this all about 25 minutes ago, by the way.

Stealing scripts have been okay here since day 1 unfortunately.... A guildie made a macro for me that, with the touch of 1 button, snoops the closest person's bag, checks for relics / powerscrolls / skillscrolls, steals them according to priority relics > powerscrolls > skillscrolls, then types in game either "RELIC", "SCROLL", or "SKILL SCROLL" so that my guildies know I stole something. That way guildies know to check my corpse if I get chased down or to quickly gate me out.

Does it suck? Definitely... But it's been allowed since day 1.

The concern is that he's AFK. This isn't like he's stealing from a pouch on the ground to up his stealing skill. This shit has a direct effect on the economy.

It is not allowed. That is like saying mining has been legal since day one, the point is he is doing it afk as a type of farming.

It didn't happen to me personally other than putting myself in the position with full intent on posting this thread about it.
Like I said, I was confirming a rumor.
It was 105 mining. Who gives a shit? That's not the point, though.
I only play thieves. I'm not stupid enough to run around with valuables when I'm attack on sight by 50% of the server on any of my given characters.
He clearly only read the title and nothing else.

Not to mention hes at the dock portal (1 of 2 ways into the safe docks) Most recall to the dock port to bank valueables.
At any rate all you gotta do is follow my guide to thief proof link in my sig. Jonnys macro wont snoop crates :) even if it did he would insta die.
I do however find it interesting the devs allow this cause not to long ago was the huge debate over the exact same thing only at champs and such. I cant remember what dev posted about it but I do remember the debate and nerf that followed.

This isn't even the first case of someone afk script stealing powerscrolls at the docks gate. I seem to recall another player had been suspected of this some time ago, but regardless it probably happens more often than anyone realizes anyways.

Seems to me that this is a two part problem.

Part one is that there's nothing against doing it in the rules.

Part two is that trying to prove or prevent script stealing takes away from a vital resource that help keep the server at the top of the charts; development time.

I think it would be smart to make a poll and see where the community stands on this issue, to make it easier for staff to see how everyone feels about it. I'm sure there's both an amount of players who enjoy script stealing and also an amount of players who abhor it.

Personally I see the issue here with overall game balance. Maybe the best solution is to make stealing simply not possible within 3 or 4 tiles of the docks gates. I've also read that they plan to make the docks non-functional as a safezone anyways, and that they plan to put a safe zone possibly inside wbb or closer to the bank. So perhaps the problem will be solved at that time.

Slight OT but related: is the area around the gate towards the docks also susceptible to stealing? I thought you can't use steal skill near the gate?

I never use the WBB one when I'm actually carrying anything valuable but just want to make sure the other gate is actually safer.

Carrying anything steal-able to Brit bank that you don't want to lose isn't smart but still to me it would seem that if he is running this script afk then it's the same as afk resource gathering and should be punished accordingly. I have seen a player get jailed or possibly even banned for an afk taming macro and this seems just as bad or worse.
