NO More NPC "Low" Prices?!?!

Okay what gives?

I remember that the NPC prices has something to do with the factions. I don't know exactly how it all works however.

But can someone please explain to me how since I started here, Trinsic, Vesper, and Moonglow used to offer lower NPC prices on goods such as 2g and 4g regs, 4g scrolls and 4g bottles. And somehow now, NO TOWN seems to be offering these lower prices.

How does this work? Why did these three towns that I know of all stop the lower npc pricing suddenly, and when can we expect a return of lower npc pricing to return to at least a couple of towns?

..Or do I simply need to join a certain npc guild now to regain these lower npc prices, such as the mages guild in Britain to get lower prices from npc mages?

Obviously, this is a HUGE deal to someone with vendors, but I'd think this would be a huge deal to anyone that plays this game actually. I'm shocked that I don't see any other forum posts regarding this.

Thanks.

Inflation. NPC figure if you can pay 8m for a 120 tame you can afford 3g for your root.

LMAO. I see....

They reset the faction systems. Now join a faction are get your cheap regs back.

Uhh, so the only option I have to get that lower cost on npc goods back is to join a faction and suddenly have my 100% crafter start getting slaughtered and looted mercilessly in towns by 400 enemy guild players non-stop? Uhh, I'll pass. Heh.

I fail to see why your crafter has to be the one buying your supplies.

Wont it go back to normal when we get some faction commanders and they set the rates right down?

this. All towns and their prices are set to default - welcome to original UO, ladies. Now we have to wait until someone becomes CL, secures a town and changes prices.

Steel,

I'm in the same boat, thankfully i've been tracking my funds (material costs to profit margins) for a while now making sure i'm getting at least a moderate profit. I will now be watching to see if the faction change forces an increase in prices of my goods. When I can't go farm materials I am forced to rely to heavily on NPCs, but the supplement means i keep items fairly affordable. For those with basic business mechanics: an increase from 2gp to 3gp per unit for your raw materials means your material costs increased by 50%

On a larger scale: that translates into an increase from 200k spent weekly to 300k spent weekly on building materials for serious crafters. That sunk cost has to be balanced. I'm not spending at that scale, but i've got calculations that provide me with appropriate price points that provides quality affordable goods to other players where they sell regularly and don't sit on Vendors longer than 4-5 days, while giving me an acceptable profit margin.

Its only been a few days, so i don't have results on costs vs profits in my trend graphs. I'm giving it at least a couple of weeks before i see if prices of my goods are forced to go up. Do i mind adding a char to a faction for access to cheaper goods? no. Can I pvp? Not at all (my latency sucks the big one and i've always sucked at pvp in UO, why i enjoy the crafting. people interactions with out getting gutted. :p )

We may look into making it so Britain is not taxable at all, since it is the starting city for newbies.

You already did that a while ago. Let us have CL elections in the next few days and everything should be fixed.

Don't assume that everyone has a red or a PvP character. I don't. I have one account, 3 characters... all crafters to support my vendors at my shop Valor-Rite Vendors. While some might scoff at this, I don't enjoy the PvP aspect of UO as much as the crafting and marketing aspect. And let's face it, UO plays best for all with a balance of different characters playing online as a community, wouldn't you agree?

And double them :)

{growls at you and the thought of having to charge 99 for a recall scroll} lol

Yay! Yes, this sounds worth waiting for!

And yes BeerJedi, thanks for your response... it does look like we are in a similar situation. My bulk regs to no surprise have sold out as they were based on the older npc prices in Moonglow. And until we see if they go back to where they were, I will just adjust prices on my recalls etc just slightly higher (35 gold vs 30 gold in lots of 100). Expect my full keg vendors prices to go up temporarily as well until things go back, at least at my vendor shop.

Thanks to everyone for your responses here. Like I say, I'm shocked that nobody brought this up before I did here.

Those whom joined the Mages Guild should still be able to enjoy the lower prices of regs, scrolls, etc.... We spent 500gp to join that guild and one of the benefits has always been lower mage item prices. This should be different than the faction pricing. Was this supposed to be changed? =(
