Hi all

I am a new player and was just after a little bit of advice

I haven't played UO in about 12 years, so I am a bit rusty

How would I go about trying to buy a house? I don't want a big plot, in fact, I'd take the smallest available, so long as it was relatively close to any mountains. How much would such a property cost me and if it is pricey, what is generally the best way to make gold these days?

I've had a scan over these forums to find skill trainer guides - but I've had no success, Is this sort of thing frowned upon? OR have I just not looked hard enough? I'm looking to build a PVM character and maybe a thief character, alongside a crafty

Thanks!

In my experience, the easiest way is to make a warrior char because it's so easy and fast to make. When you've gathered a little bit of money behind you, add music and provocation so you can take on bigger and better things. Then switch your close ranged melee skill to archery after you've gathered more funds <because arrows are expensive as a brand new player>. Once you're at this stage it should be fairly easy to take on some bigger mobs and get some cash behind you.

I'd recommend places like Khaldun because it's usually really quiet but be careful it's a "PvP" dungeon so you'll be grey to everyone, so travel light and recall out when you've got 5k in your pack, and repeat.

As for a house, the cheapest is 64,500gp, but you might find a better deal buying from another player that's looking to upgrade.

Thanks for the tips

Are there many free plots about? If not, how would I go about buying from another?

Yeah there are quite a few around you just need to search. Put a post in the BUYING section below and someone will post in it for sure.

Any tips for training archery? I got fencing up to 100 super quick fighting in the pits, but archery kills too quick

I recently started out on this shard and the following guide has helped me a lot;

http://www.uoforum.com/threads/beginners-guide-to-7x-bard-and-gold-making.25593/

One extra tip regarding above guide; this is a character without magery, so you will at the very least want to make a second account with a character with 50 magery so you can set up some basic rune books with farm spots for your provo/archer and gate him out if he died.

As for houses, there are a few threads going around discussing empty spots for new players, i think placing your own house would be the cheapest option.

Thanks

Archery + tactics where the last 2 skills i GM'd, i just did it on the mobs i was killing with provo, this gives you extra dungeon skill rate (also dont forget to drink from brit fountain, east of brit bank, every 30min for even more skill rate)

Personally I opened with a blacksmith/tailor. This enabled me to make better gear for my dexer and people buy ingots if you don't get burnt out playing a miner.

If you crafting isn't your thing the big money makers to start out with is a provo/dexer or archer or mage. There are the bard tables which I'm sure you can get a rune from some one. I don't have it anymore sadly but with it you can safely stand on a table and provo mobs onto each other and level provo pdq.

Bard tables?

How does that work then? Certain spots in the game where you can't get hit?

I placed a 2 story Villa yesterday after 5 minutes of looking and the day before, a small stone workshop next to a mountain as you wanted in about 10 min.

I need to make some money for deeds by the sounds of it, then keep my eyes open for a plot!

Yea it's a table in deceit with rotting corpses and skeleton knights that can't hit you. Downside a lot of pks role through there killing afk macroers. So you just go in with your rune book and 2 instruments and set up a macro and come back in the morning rez yourself and set it back up before head to work :)

If you use a house placement tool and build a custom, you can re-deed it for full amount of the build one day. If you build a classic house, you get like 1/3rd back. If you don't use a tool and use just the deed, it is more risky because it isn't blessed but cheaper.

So the cheapest way is to buy a deed and place? But people can steal/loot the deed?

What's the cheapest deed and where do I get them from? (Not that I'm going to have the money anytime soon!)

Carpenter shops have the deed vendor iirc, at least in Brit.

Cheapest house is the small fieldstone

Yes, move deed to bank immediately. mark rune to potential location. Recall from brit west bank inside (safe trade zone) to spot and place for safest results. Recall right back to bank and try again later if it doesn't work.

Also, some cities have higher taxes and prices. Try other cities with architects for lowest price. I think Black Pearl sells for like 4gp in the 0 tax cities.

I've trained up to a decent level to hunt - (100 music, 85 Provo, 80 Archery, 95 tactics, 85 Heal, 95 Anat, 85 hiding) - any recommendations for where I could earn a bit of gold? I was surprised at how easily I could provo dragons, but I seemed to be getting pk'd every 10 mins in destard

Ogre Lords are pretty easy (melee only) and give good money. Liches are nice aswell but a bit more dangerous.

The good stuff is at the Balrons and Dragons but they are pretty dangerous and populair

Be sure to use slayer weapons, the basic ones are not very expensive but give a huge damage boost.
