LOL well the banning of alundra and disbanding of 247 by Shane is a step in the right direction , should solve some of these problems .
The day is already better.

Who is to say the second in command of 247 don't step up and rebuild a guild and call it 742? The guild can reform under a new name.

Can we talk about changing how murder counts work so that we can eliminate these trashy players hiding behind their blue names?

Murdering should be part of the game; there are various reasons to murder someone. But if you murder you should be red. But you shouldn't get stat-loss for justified murders. You should be stat-loss'd for rampant murdering.

1. make short and long counts
2. short counts decay in 24h
3. long counts never decay
4. ???
5. profit

So in your system once your character kills 5 blues over the entire life of the character he's perma-red? I don't think that's the way to go, there.

Make stat-loss work per one murder, but make it more severe and affect everyone (blues and reds).

Random blue guy kills you while you're farming and takes a count. You come back, kill him and stat him, which takes him out of the game for a while.

Red running around with 40 murders but hasn't committed any crimes in a while. You can freely attack and kill him on sight, but you cannot stat him as he has already paid for his crimes (by being statted 40 times).

It'll give PK blues a bit of pause, since they can't just get away clean and work off the count. Reds will be able to enjoy playing criminals without getting statted every time they trip over.

I like what your saying about blue pks but red pks I don't.

I remember when I played on OSI way back that if a red died, they where dead till they turned blue again. I think it was 8 hours for every murderer count they had on them. So over a life time and they had 10 murderer count, it would take 80 hours of game time to turn them blue so they could get rezzed. A red that is dead could not be rezzed back in the day, they had to work off the murderer count as a ghost and then turn blue to get rezzed.

Make friends. Start or join a guild. Go out and have fun killing because you know that person has your back. Stop complaining how broken it is because you die too much as a red (MURDERER) or can't pvp.[e Forum lock please! JK I really don't have an issue whether they change the murder count scene, I just play. *)*

Make friends? That's a good one on this shard...

Me: Hello adventurer
Them: Hi
Me: Kill paragons with me?
Them: Sure!
Me: Almost got him!
**You are being attacked by Them**
**You are dead**

I see this happen on a regular basis. If there was any punishment whatsoever for blue PKs then you wouldn't see this hardly at all. I applaud the devs here for going outside the box to handle murder counts and bounties, but it doesn't seem to work as intended. It seems to create a lot of situations like this, and/or large murderer groups to protect eachother.

No before we flame away, obviously you can't stop this type of behavior completely. But as it sits, the 8hr timer for murder counts in a joke. Blue players can PK with impunity because they are able to macro overnight and be at 0 again. Remember, on OSI, you couldn't just macro afk overnight.

Minimum I would suggest a 40hr timers for murder counts. Even without adding short/long counts.

There either needs to be punishment for murdering at ALL levels of murderers, or there should be none.

Seriously? I was pked on my first day to play UO on OSI. This is not anything new nor should it be further addressed by the staff.

UO is all about hard lessons not flowery paths laden with rewards along the way. If you are duped as in your narrative above, then you are either a) New to UO or b) need to learn a hard lesson. Either way, you will learn from it and do better the next time around.

Blue pks? Do you trust the guy on the corner in downtown to watch your car while you hit up a shop? Hell no. All you have to do in UO is treat folks like you would in RL -- with mistrust until you know them.

And no, I am not picking on you Don Key, but on this idea in general. There are blues that you can't trust, just like there are reds you can't trust. The only thing you can trust is your friends(sometimes), your own skills, and the rules of the game.

Don Key

Master
If you think I want flowery paths for people, you are sadly mistaken.

The rules of the game let people murder people at will and stay blue. That is the problem. On OSI, that guy had to macro off an 8 hour short term murder count and a 40 hour long count after killing you. And he had to 'macro' off that count while staying logged in game. FOR FORTY HOURS.

That is fair. Current rules are too easily bypassed.

Don Key

Master
Also,

"All you have to do in UO is treat folks like you would in RL -- with mistrust until you know them. "

You can never 'know' them since people have access to too many characters. But of course the number of characters people can have will never be lowered.

Would sure be nice if when someone is guilded, you can see who their other characters are.

Then it wouldn't be trust. The guys I have played with and pvp'd with I trust and know they will not screw me over. Choose your friends wisely, even internet friends.

So you're saying you don't think there should be penalties for PKing people? Blame the victim?

You can't be wise in choosing friends when there is no accountablility for murdering. That's the entire point of a notoriety system.
