After applying a PS, do you still get gains from mining normal iron ore? Or only if you dig up special ores?

I'm pretty sure it's the higher colored ores only that will increase your skill after 100, ie copper and up probably. The higher your skill gets, the higher ore you'll need to mine to have a chance at increasing your skill.

I got really good post 100 gains from smelting valorite 1 by 1.
