ALL THINGS RDA: Another Portal Tracking Stealth Nerf?

I don't wanna sound like a brat, but make up your damn minds! Or at least include these things in patch notes instead of making announcements in irc when four people are online...or not even making them at all...

30 tiles, 90 tiles, 30 tiles, 90 tiles, 30 tiles...

I don't see anything in the patch notes.

We're still gonna get out and check. We're still going to find them. We're still going to miss them. But this bouncing around stuff can be a little frustrating.

This impacts all of us!

There should be a gump alerting how many are actually active, and one that is 100% up to date.

FYI ppl can still log out in some.
Best suggestion you have had, on the real.

Also there really oughta be at least an indicator that the portal is going to close in XX minutes, or a delay on the closing of the portal if the boss is active.

Nothing worse than getting a boss down to 5% or less and getting the boot.

Just kinda wanna keep this going as an open discussion about the current state of portals and what the community likes/doesn't like about their current state.

Honestly I think you shouldn't be able to track them at all. First one I found I didn't have tracking I heard the sound of it roaring. Yes they do need fixed I can't help but think did some of these rich players always selling these relics just camped out in them for days. Making it impossible for anyone else to ever find em. As for the time thing yes that would be nice. Have done a few that someone had went into and left and didn't kill nothing so it didn't look like it had been found. I don't think should have anything that tells they are active tho. Then you would have people only loggin on to do a rda cus it said they was active instead of having players log on allllll the time to look for them.

I think you should be able to track them - even with multiple trackers and time invested in a runebook system, I imagine it takes quite a while to find some. If you could not track them, would players really spend a large (probably very large) amount of times running around the wilds for the possibility of a relic/egg? Personally I would just farm the gold to buy, although I imagine prices would soar if they became harder to find.

As for large guilds locking them down - that happens with all things and will always be the same with whatever is popular.

@Bromista - I am going to recall around a coordinate library and try to find an RDA - then I will test the max distances in each direction before my tracker loses sight of one.

tbh with 4 trackers (which any guild should have since it take like what, 4 hours to gm?) and a complete coordinate rune library it usually took 10-15 mins max to track the whole map. This was with 80 tiles tracking

What gaps in your coordinate library? 100 tiles?

Private or public runebook system? I was planning to mark a set of my own - it would be quicker if I just needed to copy :)

It's private for our guild, there would be too many upsets if I gave it away sorry! It was a hell of a work to build for two of my guildmates

Yeah sometimes we track with two, sometimes four.

Honestly it's not worth it to recall around, we just run it. Really helps to know what the range is.

Just did one earlier but didn't have time to check. Someone else called a guildie and I in to an RDA they found and we were super unprepared and not logged in to our usual chars that we have there. Douchebag $ guild showed up...barracoon and stainless steel took some counts trying to take over the RDA.

They almost succeeded too, but the end result was a tasty new noxious relic for my meta :)

Things were a little too chaotic to test the tracking range LOL.

exactly what happened to me yesterday... damn

I've never played a game or a server that intentionally withholds basic game mechanics from it's players. I'm not whining about it, they're gonna do what they're gonna do but In my opinion and I can also probably speak for most of the newer players in my guild since we've had this discussin, there should be accurate information with numbers in a wiki. Timers, damage, statistics, drop rates, etc.

People build characters and spend money on things that just get changed or aren't true to the era. (IE leveling a thief mage to find out stealing isnt required for the sigil)

I think it would be beneficial for new players to have a solid wiki to read that doesn't just have a cookie cutter guide but information they can use on their own.

2 cents.

There is a lot that can be said about the providence of information having an impact on overall player satisfaction.

I appreciate the "community figures things out for itself" mentality...to a degree. Stealth nerfs and flip-flopping of mechanics should be handled with a bit more transparency IMO.

It has been said before a hundred times, most all of us were living with mom and dad when we started playing UO. We have grown up since then and we love the nostalgia factor that brings us back to those days, but there's a limit where it becomes just a little too real. Many of us have husbands and wives, kids, jobs, mortgages, etc. There just isn't enough time in the day. So when we do unwind and pick up the mouse, keyboard, and headset...well we want it to be quality time and would rather not see the fruits of our labor get stripped away from us by a silly game mechanic or by not being up to speed with on the fly changes.

All that being said, we have determine the range to have been decreased slightly but it's still pretty huge. We didn't count the tiles but the range is almost as large as the large in-game minimap. So this isn't game-breaking, just a little frustrating. Same as portals giving you the boot when a boss is near completion. That time could be much better spent, and I know that even just a heads up would make players happier. Making players happier is good for business.
