Guild Tags?

Why are guild tags forced on again? This is a crappy change for anybody who uses Incognito or a Disguise Kit. When I play my thief I have 6-7 different outfits all different colors and I use the Disguise Kits to hide who I am.

Yes, it's extremely obvious to everybody in the world that the disguise is a thief with the names it assigns to you, but what isn't clear is which thief it is.

This change limits my ability to disguise my identity unless I quit my guild - and that's bullshit.

Please revert, or revisit if there's a particular group of people you are trying to not let hide.

I don't currently play a thief but I can see how they've gotten the shitty end of the stick. A lot of players have asked for disguise kits or incognito to hide the guild tags. I've been griefed pretty steady from a couple of guilds since this change was implemented. It sure makes playing a lot more interesting that's for sure. Karmas a ***** dooh!

Heard rumors of a possible revert so you may be in luck either way PhireHawk.

I thought the forced guild tags was only going to be for Militias, I had assumed due to the nature of team fighting, and needing to know who was on which team....

Forced guild tags is kind of stupid.. There are a number of valid reasons to turn off your guild tag.. Some guilds are targeted by reds, players turn off their tags to go unnoticed.. Some players are disgruntled with current guild poltics (ie. red/blue wars and such), turning off a guild tag allows them to show their frustration, without having to leave the guild before they are ready... Some players perform nefarious acts - PK's / Thieves - valid for them to turn off the tag when doing those things to be all stealthy.... so many good reasons not to add forced tags for all..

Kidden, I actually don't think any of those are good reasons. You and I put our characters in our profile because we believe in having a reputation shared across characters. I think membership of a guild should come with similar transparency. I do agree that disguise kits and incognito should hide guild tags as they are about disguising an identity.

Like even for team fighting?

Kill the orange guys? Heal the green ones? What exactly is this forced tag thing for?

But that's what UO has always been about, freedom of choice.. I may choose to always show my tag, be transparent on who my characters are, but not everyone has to make the same choice... Either way, tags or not, completely agree disguise kits / incognito are systems designed to hide ones identity, tough to do that with a guild tag..

@PhireHawk In regards for team fighting, you are right, orange should fight orange, but sometimes you get teams working together, which is something they were trying to avoid here - hence no alliances, and originally stating that if teams were found working together there'd be punishments. With that said, I don't really care one way or another forced tags or not.. I'm surprised time was wasted on development for such a non issue..

Staff should keep their fingers out of the sandbox imho. Let the game be played how the game is played. Who the hell cares.

If they want to stop teams from teaming up, go back to Factions. My guild will play in factions - we aren't currently participating in the advertise PvP to new players Britain shit-show that is Militias.

Maybe I'm too salty about this, but I don't like changes that aren't thought through, and then not explained.

PhireHawk, don't cut off your nose to spite your face. I agree that factions was preferable to current state militias, which is better than initial implementation militias, but the bottom line is that militias right now is fun. Come play with us.

Simple middle ground, that would be even better than hiding the tag while incognito/disguise kit - if the toon is in the thief guild than tags disappear 100% of the time or allow for the toggle. Other than that I like it, show the tags.

A militia member should always represent their guild, thats the whole point behind it. It would be like factions but without being able to see who is in what faction. Sometimes you want to prioritize some ppl over others for either tactical or grudge reasons.

Especially in a 4 way or bigger fight, which is starting to become more and more commonplace, you have to be able to identify who is with who.

That being said, it should definitly be turned off while under the effect of a disguise kit.

So there's a tactical advantage to having tags displayed for Militia fighting. Fine. That actually makes a whole lot of sense.

So why is the entire server forced to show tags? That's what I don't get. Disguise kit exception, or thieves guild exception both sound fine to me - but as others have pointed out there's additional reasons why people would want their tags hidden.

I don't know why guild tags were forced on. (!) This kind of breaks my character.

Is it deliberate? At first I honestly thought it was a glitch that was surely known and would soon resolve itself. Maybe it's part of a greater plan...

I agree the change is pointless - I'd love to know the logic behind making this change - if it was for Militias, then tie it to Militias only.

aside from thieves/incogs, i'd like to understand why it's a bad thing?

being in a guild is an integral part of a characters identity. i can't turn thieves guild on and off. i can't turn being red on and off. once i become a murderer, i can no longer steal and i can't decide to instantly go from red to blue so i can champ or farm in peace. so why can i turn my guild identity on and off?

being in werkt, i've been given worse trade pricing, noto pked, statted, griefed, you name it. and i'll still proudly display my tags. when a guildie does something i don't think represents the guild well, my request to him is to stop f*cking doing it, not to hide his guild tags.
