when you need to pot and use shields , which arm do you disarm?

do you take off your shield or your 1 hand to drink a pot ? is the 100% chance of getting hit if you don't have wrestling outweighed by parrying the blow by keeping the shield on instead?

Drop shield and keep weapon up in most cases.

With 100 weap skill your opponent will have only a 50% chance to hit you if they also have 100 skill. That is usually the route I go in CTF (only place I use shields) where I'd rather maintain offensive capability while still being able to block swings. I only ever drop wep and keep shield up if I am very close to death, 20% health or less generally...and I'm running for the hills.

But during your average exchange I'd rather take the chance of 50/50 wiff from opponent than for the damage to fully penetrate the parry. I'm not sure on the % to block from parry but I doubt it's much more than 50/50, only without the chance to put your opponent on the defensive which can be invaluable.

Brom is spot on; if you have to pick, drop the shield. As long as you have a free hand you can drink potions, and you can throw potions even if you have a sword/mace/fencing weapon, and a shield. Or if you're using a bow.

I haven't got a reply to the mechanics of shield parry% yet, but other UO:R shards report using a (parry skill / 2) formula.

You'd have a 50% to parry an attack, which is about the same defensive ability as having a GM-skill (slightly less if they have a magic 'Accuracy' weapon and you do not, or slightly more if you have the magic weapon and they do not), but you'd also be able to inflict dmg (and poisons if you have them) via the attack.

It helps to have hotkeys. Hotkey arm/disarm off-hand, drink potion1, potion 2, potion 3, arm off-hand. Takes about 3 seconds, that's maybe 2 swings you'd endure without your shield.

Yeah just don't hammer your hotkeys or the game will queue the actions and make it take longer to pot up and get your weap/shield back up (Razor) than if you cycle your hotkeys smoothly...I have had some monumental fuckups when in panic mode running flags in CTF. Talking like getting halfway into a base from center before the queue clears lol.

Also as far as tactics bonus, the only weap skill to benefit from the increase from a chance to hit standpoint is Archery. All other weapons with tactics adds to your damage so your hit % will still be evenly match with your opponent 1:1 regardless of modifiers.

the only people who disarm their weps, are defense dexxers lvling, so they dont hit with a %reduction on exp gain.
