Why can't I steal from them?

Why would you want to steal from them... all they have is gold and the occasional rune.

You can't steal because they drop loot on death. Perhaps they ingested it due to lack of pockets.

Make Stealing Gloves, gloves that help you stay clean while you stick your arm up their back end, digging out the loot they swollowed.
