Maybe, but let me ask you this. Why do CBDs need to be a more desireable BOD reward?

The thing is it's the only item that interferes with player crafted items market. So I guess I agree with the OP. Donation coins are otherwise used to buy (aside from ethies, which cannot be crafted, obviously) items that have no impact on the game (only other I can think of is the meta stone and it's also on gold sink item).
I always thought the principle of donation coins was to let people who wanted to donate a small plus that didn't impact the game, to say thank you, and feed their vanity.
As for the dark tapestry, it's simply a % of chances to get them (even with the other hue) http://tor.bplaced.net/bodt-lrw.htm
