I currently have a meta pet with relics linked to a meta stone. I have recently acquired another meta dragon with relics but no meta stone. Am i able to link my current stone to the new drag , just to get the stats, then re-link the stone back to the original dragon, without messing up the gained exp or resetting anything? Or do i have to buy a new meta stone? I plan on selling the dragon.

The stone being linked and unlinked has no effect on pet. It is basically just a display for what each pet has and allows you to add relics to each pet. So feel free to add and remove as needed.
