Melee PVM

Does anyone know how well melee characters can do in PVM?

This is my first week back after about an 8 year break from UO and noticed whenever fighting demons/dragons/ogre lords I'll need to run and bandage, then go back and fight (until the monster is dead).

Does this ever get easier for Melee classes? I spent years playing a Provo / Mage, and would really like to give Melee a whirl this time around.

My current build:

100/100/25

100 fencing - currently 100
100 tactics - currently 100
100 anatomy - currently 100
100 poisoning - currently 60
100 healing - currently 90
100 alchemy - currently 70
100 resist spells - currently 60

Check out the bard templates out there. Especially in wiki because you're current build is more for pvp. I use a Provo Archer/Mage. Primarily for Champ spawns but can easily take out all mobs, that is if there are more than one. +1 Slayers!

I just use a straight up lumberjack and he can hold his own with a slayer weapon. GM resist will help immensely. Build is
Swords
Tactics
Anat
Healing
Lumberjack
Hiding
Resist

Comes in handy to carry a vanq axe those accidental pvp moments.

I started an axer build like this but find moving from one location to another an issue without magery..
Nothing say "oh crap" like when a groupl of PKs show up and your recall fizzes.
How do you overcome this? Just keep a friend near by?

provo macer is an epic PVM build.
Hey, I know ur post is like 1 month old but maybe you'll read this question. Could you tell me more about this build? I am fairly new to this game and I am looking for a nice melee PvM build. What skills are involved in that provo macer build? How is macer different from fencer/swordsman? Thanks in advance for a reply.

Here is my build. The difference is damage vs speed. Using macing weapons at gm gives you additional damage, war hammers drop a blow vs players that lower stamina quickly. Also ruin armor really well. Use war maces for a quicker seeing speed so you use potions. Quarter staves are fast but two handed, you need one hander weapons. As far aa damage go, you will hit 150+ using slayer weapons.

The special blow from war hammers also hits heavily armored PVE targets such as dragons much harder. The harder the hit the better it penetrates armor.

Looks like I'm a bit slow to respond. I've been really busy irl the past few months.
