Fisherman character setup

Henrik

Master
Hi there,

I'm starting up with a new character which will be a fisherman - mostly for generating money in the end. I've already managed to GM Fishing so now I have a couple of questions that needs answers so I can proceed.

1. What would be good skill setup for a fisherman? Because of sea serpents and other monsters out in the sea I will need to defend oneself - is magery to prefer or any warrior skills?

2. I need to buy a boat and I have the money on another character. Is there a way to transfer money between my characters or what would you do in this case?

Any other advice as well would be appreciable!

Thanks,
Henrik

I don't actually have a thunter yet, but I think most people either go with magery or Provo/archer for ranged attacks. As far as transferring money, if you have two accounts, just log in both characters at the same time and do a secure trade between them. If not, I don't know how to do it. If you know someone you can trust to not steal your money you can have them hold it for a few minutes or something while you log in with the second char?

Make an archer fisherman. Make a check and hand it to your other guy or use a house. Buy a boat from a player they are cheaper.

Hey!

Your fisherman should have the following template :

GM archery
GM tactics
GM anat
Lgd. fshing (120, when you can, obviously it's gonna take some time)

The rest depends. I fish with my tamer, so I don't need provo on my fisher. If you don't have a tamer/bard, you need provocation, otherwise you will die fast (deep sea eles are quite strong). Even with provo, without a pet to tank it, it will be hard, cause they eat regular water eles in 3 seconds.

If you don't have a tamer, you will definetely need healing and provo.

I really like hiding on my fisher. It buys some time when monsters spawn.

I also have 20 cooking for fish steaks. You miss a lot but who cares, you never need as many fish steaks as you will end up having anyways.

You should know that fishing is the most profitable activity, or close to it, if you do have a tamer. Otherwise, you will fish slowly and will have a REAL hard time against osiredon and leviathan.

Don't expect the 150-200k per hour income without a tamer.

Hey,

Thanks for the answer.

I've looked around for templates and some people prefer taming and some says it's not worth it (because of the time it takes to GM it). But you say it's worth it? I was thinking about GM magery otherwize...

You can do it without a tamer, it's just less profitable because :

Fishing chests takes more time
If you spawn an osiredon (115 fishing req., drops a rare 100% of the times) you will cry
You can't do ancient mibs cause leviathan is dirty

Fishing regular chests will be ok about 95% of the time without a tamer. But for it to be the most profitable stable and constant activity in UO, you need the tamer.

A tamer that fishes will make more gold than a tamer that farms in a dungeon.

Fishing is like a next level of taming, actually. You can do it without, but you should start fishing after you GMed your tamer so HE can get paid.

So you think a bard/mage cannot do osiredon and leviathan solo?

Osiredon spawns with deep water elemental, just provo them bitches and drop a few energy bolts on the osiredon to keep life to same level as deep water elem.

For normal mibs, provo the deep elemental on the normal water elemental, let him burn his mana to kill the water ele (will take him 15-20 seconds) and in the meantime cast 2 Energy Vortex and he's done.

Leviathan will indeed be tought tho, but I think it's manageable. Not that you're gonna fish up MANY ancient mibs anyways. When you have some 5, just call a friend and it's gonna be easy enough. 2 bards can complete lvl 6 t-maps and leviathan spawn isn't harder than that.

Sure, a tamer makes everything easier (and i'm talking about every aspect in the game, from pvp to pvm to fishing to t-maps to whatever) but you can be a succesfull fisherman without one.

Oh yeah, if you want to fish with a friend, you can absolutely do that.

It isn't impossible to fish with a mage, it just slows you down.
