Are you doing your smithing in the orc dungeon? there are forges and anvil in there for you. There's also good mining around as well if you should need more ingots. Yes, you might see PKs, just have your recall macro ready, and don't take more ingots there to work with then you'd wanna lose, I'd recommend no more then 1000 ingots at a time. Also remember you can't take a pack horse there, it would get killed by the mobs. One there with your orc mask on, make whatever item seems to give you gains best, (i'd do plate gorgets from about 78 to 100) over and over, smelt them all, and keep making them until you don't have any ingots left. Then recall out, get some more ingots and come back.
Just be sure you have good hiding skill (50+) before going. Hide while smithing and if you mine there to give you the biggest edge for survival against reds (and other punk blues eye'ing you) lol.
After about 90 or 92 skill, it still might pay off to buy smithy skill scrolls however. As it likely will cost you less for smith ss then it costs you ingots for skill gain... even in the orc dungeon.
But if you're like at 60-something or 70-something smith skill.... use the orc dungeon pal. Gains will cost you much less there then eating ss's until you get into the 90's skill wise.
