Good deal, great suggestion, thanks.
@eppy , @Swayze : is there hesitation with exploring the addition of rewards to structured PvP (militias, O/C, etc)?
Exactly! That's exactly it: those events won't work without more players on the shard. Something like militias could absolutely pull casual players into structured PvP, despite the constant dying, so long as their time spent led to the possibility of a reward.
Example: remove all...
I agree with most of this, but I'll say this: I think there's still room for the casual player in PvP on UOF. It, like proven in many other games, all hinges on incentive.
An example: FIFA 18. I'm equally as casual in FIFA as I am on UOF. I stand no chance to compete against the top-tier...
Isn't that a shame? This is UO. UO was always a place where both casual players and organized groups had a place in PvP. Being that way is not only great for the player base, but also the growth of the server.
As it stands, I'm not desperate for PvP on UO. I have other games that I can...
I've had a bunch over the years. Carvel, Honest Injun, Junkmonkey, Manchild, others I've that have since been deleted. I stopped PvPing here a while back due to the mechanics and now do PvM nonsense between long breaks. I constantly lurk the forum and check in to see how the PvP (hasn't)...
Just because I'm looking for a vastly better PvP system doesn't mean I have "no idea about the PvP here", but I love that common PvPers nonsense. "If you don't like it, you are obviously clueless".
But, fine. If you don't want to "dumb PvP down", then you should be all of expanding it, right...
Out of everything you listed, none of them require additional skills to use, and all of them were used on OSI... besides expl potions. But why not reduce the taming requirement and give everyone pet dragons for PvP? Give hiding a 100% success chance with 0 skill? Lets unlock every possible...
PvP on UOF consists of groups of players throwing potions. There is no middle ground. Any even fight turns into a track meet. The lack of build diversity and overall PvP mechanics are so painful, and it's no question why a large percentage of the players here have no interest in joining in.
I mean, or my opinion differs from yours. You know, that too.
And that's also sort of my point. The PvP style here caters to one type of player. It's not the way UO always was, and the reason why a lot of people either dont participate, or leave the shard outright.
If you're satisfied with...
Well, I tend to think of 97-00 UO when thinking about how high we should aim. From what I've seen, everything on UOF had been down significantly from where it was a year ago.
That's not really my point though. Having militia fights "daily" doesn't come anywhere close to the UO of old, where fighting was constant. That should be the goal. For that to happen, PvP needs to appeal to all players the way it used to, not just the few.
I guess I just don't understand.
No player that has invested time/money/energy into UOF should want to watch it slowly fall apart. If we're being honest, I don't think one can honestly say that UOF is thriving, or that it's as active as they'd like. I recall a time where it seemed like UOF...
*Murdering two player during one week on an account with a character in the BC causes that player to be fired from BC and having his account banned permanently.
*One character per account can join the BC.
For far too long, murderers and thieves have victimized the good people of Britain. Innocent tamers, bards and warriors have been viciously slain - unprovoked - at the hands of the dastardly and demonic... deeds that, thus far, have gone unpunished. It's time for a new class of citizen to rise...
Love the drawing.
I don't disagree that a learning curve leads to players having a deeper respect and admiration for the game. But that wasn't my point. Thoroughly confusing players by allowing multiple old assist programs isn't necessarily equal to a learning curve.
