Should the Britain Safe Trading Zone

Should the "pocket of Trammel"(Britain Safe Trading Zone) be removed from the server?

I leave on a hiatus and return some time later to find a "Safe Trading Zone" atop of West Britain bank.

I find this highly inappropriate for a Felucia ruleset server and I dont think it should exist at all here. This greatly undermines the thief playstyle, and the "spirit of the game". One I'm not sure I should even bother taking the time to elaborate on as most of us have played for so long I think we see the glaring issue with this zone.

I would like some community feedback here as I highly, highly doubt this was done with any consensus other than a vocal minority.

Should this zone remain or not?

I call upon staff to let this discussion play out, adhere to the will of the community, and not lock this prematurely, and I call upon the community to respectfully voice their opinions.

Thank you.

Sadly I think nothing will be done about this. The main argument for it is that new players come to WBB and judge how active the server is (though why they can't gauge this from reading the forums/irc, looking at population statistics, or actually playing the game for a bit is beyond me), and showing screenshots of a bunch of people permanently AFK at brit bank makes for some good promotional material apparently. If it were removed most people would just give a silent nod or a shrug and carry on playing, but you'd get a minority that will squeal non-stop on forums until it gets added back in.

even in a so-called safe zone... nothing is really safe, you just got to be more creative.. convince people with trust to make mistakes, quickly move a tile making people drop shit on the ground, classic bait-n-switch trade window cons.. theres lots of ways to go about it. just be creative.

And I would agree with you had this location not be SOOO intrusive.

That really is a fickle thing to judge player activity on. How many people are sitting idly at the bank not playing the game. When I was coming up and starting this server I used the activity in dungeons and in the main world as well as active housing, and activity of every city OTHER than Britain to judge the player activity levels, if I really really insisted on using the bank as a gauge of player activity.

This administration needs to focus less on making flashy Youtube videos for a 20 year old, 2D game and more time adminstrating the server, if that's really where their priorities are.

No, it should be removed, burned with fire, converted into toilet paper, medically dissected to see if there is a cure to this plague. Safe trading in Ultima Online? Never has something been so incredibly wrong with an idea, never. Suck it up like a true Ultima Online player, this game is all about loss and evolution, take away the loss aspect and no one evolves.

"But Dark, I have printouts of my in game pixels, I pray every night to them, I show my friends when they come over for a sleep over and we can tell scary stories about the time when safe zones were non-existent, scary scary stories. One of my friends had to be rushed off to hospital because of a panic attack they suffered regarding a story about a world with no Trammel. Also, where would I go AFK with all my multi-coloured, neon splashed clothing to show off with? You are selfish......"

Because they are wrong, plain and simple. They completely take away a very VERY valuable lesson from players. But again, what else can be expected... They are here to stay, no matter how much we protest against them, thieves are considered a destructive class which cause people to leave the server, why help them more? I know, its pathetic, but hey,... Such is the new Era of UO...

I understand that the milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, and I think that's good and damn smart

but make it so its trading only on top of bank, no bank access.

e: and no safe zone inside/around bank obv, only on roof

We're at a 50/50 draw right now and that's if we factor out the calls to keep it in game and just move it. Interesting.

I personally like having an area where i can safely trade, considering that there is no real counter against getting stolen from right after a trade with some of the scripts that are out there.

Considering the above, why not have WBB be this area? (Previously it was the duel pits iirc and this just bring lag to the pvp'ers with all the afkers)

I definitely believe there should be a safe trade zone kept in place somewhere, mainly because there are custom in-game items that are worth a lot of money such as relics, eggs, tame scrolls, etc... Unless you have a vendor next to a bank, then I can't imagine doing a trade for those items anywhere in the world including guardzones. now if such items didn't exist, then I would say to get rid of safe trade zones altogether. As far as I can remember, there weren't items of high value to trade during Pre-Trammel days. or I just didn't know about them? lol. anyway, I remember things being more simple back then. none of those expensive custom items you see on this server.

As for thieves, I personally think it would be more fun to steal from players at dungeons/champs/rdas/demon spawn. lots of potential to score some nice loot there.

Yeah... Changing this across the server to favor the 10-15(if that) vocal thieves that more than likely just use a one button script macro to steal everything is not a smart move.. Catering to a grief style game play instead of looking to build more options for thieves to do is just backwards. Even if this is 50/50 it still wouldn't be changed because a ton of people who play UOF do not even use the forums making forum polls kind of moot.

I talked about this in the AMA.
UO Is a really hard game to get into from a new player prospective. We had the safe zone at the docks before and no one really had an issue with it and people were just afking/trading at the docks. It just makes sense to move that to the bank. It's not like all those people would be sitting there if that zone was removed, they would be sitting in their house, the docks or just logging off....

The only reason i can think of that people wouldn't want this zone is so they can scam large ticket items from people which most likely would make them quit. If we had 20,000 daily players, then yes- let's remove that shit. But let's be real here, we are the only thing driving people into UO it seems in the last couple years. I think if adding this little safe zone allows people to trade items they spent days, weeks, or even months to obtain safely then that's something that benefits the server more than hurts it.

Basically the PRO's to that little area vastly out weigh the CON's. These are facts.

I guess i can ask the question of why thieves can't get more creative and adapt? OR why there aren't more constructive suggestions by these people like the idea i noted in the AMA. (Indiana jones style systems).

tbh , how many of us have logged on a new server walked to brit bank to see how populated it was...if you see one or two people you logged off never to be seen again....I have done it to numerous servers. I think the only low populated server I ever played was Acropolis , and only because a dear friend played there.

I sadly must say it should remain, it's good PR .People need to see we are a busy server period.
