My contribution to training taming

EDIT: This is an old guide. The locations of the stuff I tamed in Fire has been changed. The mobs are still there, but the locations are different. The general guide is still correct though

I'll start off by saying that I didn't train all the way to GM, I went to 91 real skill and used skill scrolls to GM. It took me about 2 weeks go to from 50 to 91. Here's what I did:

Started my character with 50 taming, 50 magery. First thing I did was lock animal lore at 0. I'm not sure if this helps or not, but I was under the impression that you'll fail more with lore at 0, and failing more = good. Then I went on to GM Magery, Med, Eval, Peace, and Music. Music and peace are the most useful of those listed. It's a good idea to atleast have a decent amount of magery, 80 minimum. I also trained hiding a bit as it's useful as well. The key to gaining as fast as possible is training in dungeons, which is where I did 90% of my taming. And when taming in dungeons, peacemaking is absolutely necessary. Obviously, training in dungeons brings the possibility of being pked, which is why it's nice to have a decent amount of magery (to recall, cast reflect, heal etc), and hiding. With all that being said, here is how I trained...

From 50 taming, I went straight to the first level of Shame and worked on scorpions. In the first level, theres 8-9 scorpions all in the same area:

shame_zpsdfb2f443.jpg

The area outlined in red is where the majority of the scorpions spawn. Simple...peace/tame one, and drag to the surrounding earth elementals to kill. Rinse and repeat this to ~78 shown taming

Next, head to Fire dungeon. Fire dungeon is full of stuff to tame, and you can GM off mobs in here. What you wanna work on now are the small hellcats.

fire_zpsf58deb20.jpg

The area in red is where I did most of my small hellcat taming. In that corner spawns 3 small hellcats, and 1 large hell cat. Again, what you wanna tame are the small ones. It's simple, I would drag one small hellcat to the other side of the wall and peace/tame non stop until you tamed it. Once tamed you could either drag it to some surrounding spawn, or release/kill it which is what I did. If you run around Fire dungeon, you can find more small hellcats, I just found that specific corner to be the easiest. This is where it gets easier, because little by little you can start introducing new mobs to tame. At 80.7 you can start taming Lava Lizards. I didn't really start those til around 83 shown taming, because at 80.7 you will almost never gain and it'll be a waste of time. Similar with the small hellcats, there are Lava Lizards scattered all throughout Fire. So continue taming small hellcats and lava lizards til around 87 shown, then you can target hellhounds. Again, you need 85.5 shown taming to attempt hell hounds, but you'll rarely gain at that point so wait til around 87 or so. In the yellow outlined part of the map is another good spot, because theres small hellcats, hell hounds, and lava lizards that all spawn in that little area. So continue peace/taming those and you should be seeing good gains. At around 90 shown taming I started doing the large hell cats, which there are tons of in fire dungeon. I did large hell cats til ~92 shown taming(91 real). From then on, you can GM off the large hell cats, as well as taming all the other things listed. Like I said, I decided to use skill scrolls to GM, but it only took me 2 weeks of moderate taming to get to 91.

There are plenty of other things you can tame to gain off of, those are just the mobs that I used. At 59.1 you can gain off great harts, and at 71.1 taming, you can gain off bulls. Every once in a while I would hit up the jhelom pens and tame the bulls there, or just wander around the land taming pretty much everything (bears, harts, hinds, horses etc). Doing this actually got me some good gains, as I found plenty of pretamed animals. Pretamed animals are harder to tame, and therefore have more chances to gain.

When taming, I made a macro like this:

Use skill peacemaking
waitfortarget (edit timeout to 1)
last target
Use skill animaltaming
waitfortarget (edit timeout to 1)
last target
loop

This macro would attempt to peace and tame nonstop with virtually no delay. What I would do is target the monster to tame, hit play, and switch to my alt. I would have it so that my alts client was overlapping half my tamers client so I could see my tamers health, as well as anything on the screen (i.e, if a pk would show up), all while farming on my alt.

Quite possibly the most important part of all this: ALWAYS keep food/water on you to stay full. Also, if you have enough magery, have magic reflect up at all times just in case a pk comes.

Like I said, this is just the way that I trained taming. Here is a good site that shows animals and monsters, along with their minimum taming skill requirement: http://www.uoguide.com/Tameables#Monsters. You could pretty much pick anything close to your taming skill and gain off it, and it's good every once in a while to change things up.

Hope all this makes sense. Good luck, now go GM taming :)

I know u said ur not sure about lore..but does it HAVE to be 0? I gmed it on a macro and wondering if I should drop it it for the taming gains. ..

Lore has no effect on taming success and no effect on skill gains. It is considered in vet amount and needs to be 60/80 for cure res and control of a pet once tamed.

for me I would say moderate is 2-3 hrs a day

I "moderately" started a week ago and im at 80 shown and just started the small hellcats.. I gained a good 1-2 pts an hour at most since the 60's. I started a month ago but would dick around for 10 min and couldn't take it...its so damn boring. but once I hit scorps in shame it got a little better because they attack and u gotta keep ur eyes peeled for those bad ass pks that hunt new tamer chars...not as boring as following bears around the forest

personally i hang around the brit forest by the moongate, average around 1-2 points in a play through (1-2 hours depending on if i log in my alt to kill off the tamed pets) most the time though i can find a wisp or gargoyle that will handle pets fairly easy. Currently at 72.1 was at 63 when i came back to the game SO not that bad really.

I GM'd taming in OSI days and took weeks for the last 1 full point back them so not that bad.

Currently just use a macro to do animal taming closest grey target, then made another macro to release and hit the okay gump art. Rinse repeat. Sometimes i would tame other pets that people tamed, but was my pet previous so i usually just run my dexxer round, kill named pets then come back and get fresh spawns. If i was in a dungeon i would get side tracked easily with killing monsters, so i tend to stay away from dungeons.

how best - to tame dragons with animal taming - at 94 =) ?
105 peacemaking is terribly (done on ~5,6 time and peace only 2-3 sec )! if use provo the animal will be angry and will not tame

...and whether it makes sense for Tamer - train peacemaking on this server ?

I use peace with no problem so far when taming just have to figure out how many tames I can get per peace then prep the peacemaking again.

Hard hitting/firebreathing mobs you usually red them (that is, bring them to very low life) and THEN tame them.

If you macro peace/tame last target I found usually 5 per peace. This applies to easier animals. When I would tame hell hounds and large hell cats after the 5th tame attempt starts I may need to kite till I either tame/fail.

I would stay out of fire at 75 it really is not worth it. There is a huge spawn of great harts southeast of Compassion desert that will be good at your level....I tried to tame in fire at your level and found very few spawns of small hellcats that didn't have other spawns. Fire is good once you can tame hell hounds....north of the lich graveyard is a good spawn of hell hounds and lava lizards that you can tame and then just go dump them in lich gy. I personally did this till 90 then switched to large hell cats southwest of said gy.

Yea that's where I am at with the Lizards, but I'm not sure if Dragons and higher beasts would hold that long. Since I haven't gotten that far yet I left it open in case the number was different.

Peace loses it's effectiveness once you get to dragons/nightmares/white wyrms. Best bet to tame them is beating them down then paralyze field till you tame.

Ooo good to know. I wasn't sure when I was going to drop Peace for provo so prob around then I'll switch it up. Which I'm getting pretty close I"m at 90.something real

regarding beating them down, how many damage should i make until paralyze n tame?
says...until 50%hp? or 20%hp?

Shortbus

The more you beat them down (the less hp they have) the less damage their firebreath will do. Therefore, the more you have them down the less dmg they will do to you when you stand beside them and try to tame. But be careful, even at 115 taming/lore you can still anger the beast before it starts to tame.

I highly recommend Paralyze Field.

Just like he said the first ever nightmare I tamed I got using the first para field but it took me like 15 to get a WW. Would not be a bad idea to have a friend or guildie help you (heal you, kill other spawn, etc)out the first couple of times till you get the hang of it. Myself personally would start with a nightmare in fire and lure it to the area just SW of Lich Graveyard usually no spawn there unless someone else dragged a lich or something there.

Thanks for the information!
I got a question about taming hellhounds. I could peace hellcats and lava lizard. They'll stand still for 5 taming attempts. But hell hounds are similar to drake and dragon, they could only be peaced for few sec. is that normal or do I need higher peacemaking skill to stop the hellhound?
