Use of Gems

Diamonds, Rubies, Emeralds, Citrines, etc etc etc
What are they used for besides selling to the NPC?
When I double click them, It says "your tinkering skill isn't high enough to use this."
Anything good?

Nothing that I know of. If they are usable in crafting, I don't think UOF has those recipes. Probably from a later era.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
