I have a level 5 beserker w/ tread and phase shift and level 7 mage w/ focal, shadow, and vivify.
The beserker is much easier to level than the meta mage bc the dps is higher imo. Put on some store bought leather armor w/ slayer mods and you will be gaining exp at about 8k per hour at least. On my mage I seem to average around 6k per hour and that is w/ a slayer book, which very few people have, and no armor.
I would recommend going the beserker route if your goal is dps. I can more than double my mage's score on my beserker at champs/invasions. If you want more flexibility and more fun, then go the meta mage route. I enjoy playing the mage a lot more because you have a lot more options w/ a mage than with a dexxer. + you don't have to worry about finding a weapon when you get killed, just grab some regs and get back in it.
Just my opinion based on my experiences:
Beserker - crazy dps potential the relics tend to do about 300 damage per proc when maxed. The most valuable relics in order are: Tread, Double Strike, Infected Wounds, Phase Shift. Unless you want a gimp template. If you are rolling hiding/stealth then phase shift could easily be the highest dps relic for you. I like the LJ template for the dps, using tread and phase shift timers in the background.
Mage - Much more fun w/ the new changes, relics are still pretty weak in comparison to the beserker and defense talismans. I value them as follows: Shadow, Focal, Vivify, Dispersion. I have focal at level 8 and it only does like 30-60 extra damage. Shadow disciple is nice when it procs for the mana return and the resist drop on the mob. Vivify i rarely use, but sometimes it is useful when I need something as a meat shield in a busy room.
Arrows 2 gp each or free, bows, free, firing from untouchable spot, easy only limited to arrows you're holding. Reagents 4/2 minimum each, 6 gold minimum per cast, mana pool finite, med required. Tell us more about how hard you have it.
well I have no personal experience with the mage talisman, but the only complain I've heard so far is the damage is lacking in comparison and it gets expensive quick
Don't level the beserker w/ a bow. Drop archery for swords and use a katana. You can switch back to archery w/ a couple hours of macroing once your talisman is maxed
i've been told the same thing before but i use my archer fairly often for spawn cleanup near my guild houses...thinking i might just drop spell resist and pick up a melee skill for the time being.
