Special Fishing Nets - What Am I Missing?

So I throw a special fishing net. Two Kracken -- 380ish gold each.

I throw another special fishing net -- regular water elemental (like 150ish gp), two deep sea serpent (like 78 gp each)

I continue to throw them, and I'm amazed at how worthless the loot is. You're lucky to average 500gp each.

Yet I see people selling 1k to 1.5k gold (even some vendors 3k gold) ... and I'm scratching my head why.

I've read that there's a rare chance at barnacle ingots on deep water elementals, are people just trying to throw nets over and over at a rare chance at getting one? Otherwise, why bother paying so much?

Meta pet leveling

You mean leveling a pet in a remote location so it won't be killed by players like it could be if trying to level it in a dungeon?

Or are kracken, water elementals and deep sea serpents especially great things for metas to kill for exp?

I'm amazed at how the whole economy seems to swing back to the tamers.

Can gain decently good for meta pets. Plus the deep water elementals chance at a barnacle ingot. Quick 60k+ flip for 2 minutes of time.
