Question about Soulforge quest

I'm trying to finally start the soulforge quest. have 120 BS/Tink and a legendary hammer. I go to llewelyn in the library and he wants to see the hammer. Tried holding it, tried giving it to him. He refuses to admit whats before his eyes.
What am I doing wrong, please? Waited so long to get to do this and now im stuck at the beginning.

Nevermind, tried standing on the other side of him when I spoke and he finally noticed it. I guess he's got a bad eye.

I think it just depends on whether you have the hammer in your pack or not. I remember it was kinda goofy when I started it.
