Pure Melee?

Hey I just started playing and was wondering if a big focus on melee and armor was possible? Here are my skills:

Anatomy
Healing
Mace Fighting
Magery
Parrying
Tactics
Resisting Spells

I have magery in there for recalling and gating. Do I really need magery even on a warrior character? Also I heard parry is bad, is that true?

Parry is useful, too a degree. When you need to chug potions it won't be instantaneous. You'll have to un equipe your weapon or shield first, which makes you vulnerable to attacks even if it is barely two seconds. So I other words, you will run half a screen away like a mofo to get potions chugged. You will also not benefit from two handed weapons like the war hammer for your mace class which add stamina drain, armor break and damage boost. Although carrying items in both hands isn't much different from using a 2 handed weapon, other than the speed it takes to re equipe. Magery is also a good skill to have for emergencies like poison. After dealing with silver serpents at champs or out and about, you will see why... However, versus players or monsters you will be a tank. Tons of armor and a shield to parry will be unstoppable so long as there is an additonal player healing you. I see this being a limit once you start fighting monsters such as ancient Lich's, wyrms, dragons and pretty much every spell casting mob out there. Solo high end mobs isn't going to be your main priority. In fact it would be most beneficial to be in a group while playing this build.

I'm going to be playing solo a lot and doing some PvM but I would also like to defend myself if a red attacks. What would you suggest for more of a solo role? Skils and stats?

Great PVM template. If you're big pimping, some slayer armor, high end shield, and some pots or petals and you'll be unstoppable. PVP on the other hand, the above poster is right. If you want to do any serious PVP, ditch parry for alchemy or scribe. Stats, probably 90 90 45 or 100 80 45 if you intend to use magery for anything besides recalling and the occasional cure. Gates also come in handy.

If you like the character, I would keep it. You can always make another pvp character, or one better suited to fighting end-game mobs (like perhaps with inscription instead of parrying -- the reason is that 100 inscription doubles the effect of magic reflect taking it from almost useless ---> very useful, whereas parrying is useless against these monsters because they only use spells and don't punch that often). It sounds like this build will work well and allow you to explore all the dungeons a first time, and to play frequently in all but the hardest 1-2 dungeons. This is because parrying is so good for pvm, and after you start collecting invulnerability shields you'll be getting 50+ AR just from the shield. Mace fighting also lowers the AR of the person you're attacking, making it great for pvp.

A quick thing about using parry though-- You can't use potions while holding things on both hands, so I made a macro to get around this. To do this, set hot keys (in Razor) for the dress/undress right hand and dress/undress left hand functions. Now, go to macros and record a new macro (called 'unequip-reequip' or something). Hit record on the new macro, now hit your two hotkeys for undressing, then stop recording. You've just created a macro to unequip both your hands. You can clear out the two hotkeys you set earlier and the new macro will still work, and now you can set THAT one to a single key press. The thing about the dress/undress functions is that they work in reverse too, so I set this to Escape key (handy since it's near all the F1-12 keys) and it unequips my items, then I chug a potion, and I hit it again to re-equip everything. It takes less than a second. Crucial for a parry-er! This also lets you equip everything right away after casting a spell. (Note: every time you switch gear, you have to hit this hotkey 1-2 times to get it working with your new gear)

Okay guys I'm going to drop parrying and pick up inscription instead. I'll be going to 2 handed maces, hopefully this works out. If not, I can change it later. I appreciate the help!
