New kind of Pet?

I was thinking about the guys you take places and they give you money. Why can't we do something similar, but instead of them hiring us to take them places, we hire them to adventure with us, kind of like pets. It could work the same way as pets, the more powerful the guy you hire, the more slots he cost and the more he is paid. You could hire these guys by the hour and for that hour they would act just as the pets do. However, if they should die, that is it, your hours is up.
