Maybe a stupid question, but.. no statgain for stealing from mobs?

I'm new to UO Forever and figured I'd roll a thief, I found out that you have to be in the Guild to steal from players, and that I need to raise my stealing.

I can steal from mobs, apparently getting random items from their loot, but I don't seem to be gaining in stealing by stealing from mobs, is that true or am I missing something?

If I can't steal from players, and I don't get gains from stealing from mobs.. How am I supposed to raise the stat to join the Guild?

Im not sure about gains from mobs.. I would assumed it should raise it. are you well fed and drank water?

I macrod my stealing to 100 with a packhorse before I bothered stealing from anything. You can find a guide to setting up a macro with razor on google or on the forums somewhere. All you need to do is put an item in the packhorse then record yourself stealing from packhorse, then drag and drop it back from your bag into the packhorse and loop the macro. change the targets to target by type, then put a 10 second wait.

depending on your skill depends on what item you want to use. choose something's weight that corresponds with your skill. 50 skill use a 5 stone item. etc..

Thanks Red_Pig I'll check it out.
I've found that you do get stat gains by stealing from mobs, but it seems slow.
