Looting Blue Body = 100% Guard Whack?

So every time I've tried to loot a blue corpse I've been instantly guard whacked. Its usually somewhere near Brit Bank such as the bridge just west where there are often Group PVP battles.

Is this a mechanic in UOF or am I just unlucky? Back in the day you would just turn grey to other players most of the time, unless an NPC happened to catch you which was infrequent.

I tried it for the first time the other day and got smacked down. Haven't felt like trying it again.

I think there's a way around it but it would be considered a bug.. I know people used to use it to attack blues simply go somewhere in town where no npc around then when you see guards can be called run in and loot/drop em

It has been like this for ages on UOForever. Of course, there are bannable ways around it.

No. it is not an automatic mechanic. An npc is calling them. There has been plenty of times that I have gone grey accidentally looting a blue corpse in a town invasion and gotten away.

NPCs see through walls...

As others have said, someone's calling guards. Tillermen on the galleons will even call guards on you for criminal actions in town, the traitors.

Have you tried not looting innocent corpses in guard zones?
