Logs vs boards

I thought they r both resources and can be used for crafting interchangeably. Am I assuming it wrong? Thanks.

boards are useless as far as i can tell.. never chop into boards just makes em heavier

How do u mean by "useless"? Non-craftable or just heavier but still craftable interchangeably with logs?

Logs work the same as boards and vs versa .. just no reason to chop logs into boards

I thought its lighter to chop into boards?
