I was talking with some guildies about how cool the new naval combat stuff is, and how much potential there is for group pvp battles at sea. I know there are some people out there working on the galleons and actively pirating, which is great... I'm just hoping to see more of that as time goes on.
Something we thought might help stimulate that would be incorporating some type of trade system, such as shipping goods across sea for profit... or loss, depending on if they reach their destination safely. This would encourage all sorts of piracy of course, but also generate the need for blue pvpers at sea, to protect the merchant vessels, or just pirate the pirates.
Taking it even further, wouldn't it be cool to tie all that in with the new faction system? There are any number of ways I could see these things being intertwined... Having bases with docks, or some sort of sigils that can be captured via a naval assault would be one idea. Using the trade idea above, or some version of it, in conjunction with the faction system, opens up all sorts of possibilities for building up faction treasuries with taxes and such, and again would stimulate more pvp action on boats.
I'm sure there's a ton of work involved in any of that, but it was a pretty good discussion in teamspeak, and we thought it would be worth tossing out the idea. If it puts more boats on the water and encourages active gameplay in different facets of the game, I think it is worth exploring at least.
