Was wondering if anyone knows if a carpenter can use a # of boards+ logs of the same type, combined to craft an item?

Not sure i understand this correctly.
But you can make boards by dclick the axe and target logs and it will convert them to boards.

Say it takes 500 oak logs to make a wooden chest. If i have 400 oak logs and 100 oak boards, does that = 500 oak logs?

Make boards of the logs and you have 500 oakboards.
Normal logs used to weight more boards, (think its change here on uof) so when out lumberjacking you convert the logs to boards so you can carry more before banking. you get same amount of boards as you have logs and can craft with them.
Dunno if you can combine the tbh

Its maybe not the axe you use, it can also be a saw or any those woodcrafting tools to make boards. Long time ago i had a lumberjacker ☺
