House Looting

Total newbie question.. Since I've only played post-AoS prior to joining UOF, I'm not sure how this works.

I understand when we place a house on this server we get a house key for the house.. But I've heard horror stories about people having their houses looted if a thief steals the house key.

If there are containers locked down in a house, can a thief loot from them if he/she has the house key? How does a house get 'looted' if there are items in secure containers?

I've been reading a T2A housing security guide on another forum but this is one piece I just don't get yet.

Hoping someone could shed some light. Thanks!

nope! so the way houses get looted is. If your account is inactive for too long, the house starts to decay.
After awhile of your house decaying, it'll eventually collapse. At that point, all of your stuff in the house is up for grabs.

As long as you lock down and secure the items in your house, they can't be taken by anyone else :)

(if your house is decaying, to refresh it. simply log in, and as soon as you enter your house it'll be good as new (as long as it hasn't completely collapsed))

Make friends and invite them to your house. Eventaully you will get looted if your container is set to "FRIENDS" lol

Everything is done through permissions now (Everyone, Friends, Co-owners, Owners). You can single click items to bring up the set access menu to provide access (or restrict) to any objects in your house. This includes doors and teleporters. Keys are no longer used with custom homes.

Don't forget to reset your door, teleporter security setting after every customization to your home.
