Help with Mage/Warrior template

Hello, puny mortals.
I always wanted to play UO (big ultima fan) but couldn't afford the subscription, but now I'm really excited to start playing here.
My knowledge goes as far as reading like 4 guides and I'm a tad confused about some things.
Usually in RPGs I play as an adventurer that uses medium-to-heavy armor, is skilled with either swords or axes (though I prefer axes) and can cast a dozen of spells, both offensive and deffensive.
I've read a lot and now came up with the following build (for PvM, mainly). I'd appreciate if you veterans could analyze it and help me make it better (which skills to take out, which skills to add, how much I should level it, etc).

90/45/90
Magery 120
Eval int 90
Swordsmanship 120
Tactics 120
Resist Spells 100
Bushido 120
Meditation 50

Also, I'm not sure I quite understand the skill system. When you already have 720 skill points you can't level up any other skill again? And if I set the skill to decrease, it decreases over time or do I have to do something?

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section of the forums.
Thanks for helping.

First off, pvp skills don't raise over 100 on this server. These skills include: magery, eval int, meditation, swords, fencing, tactics, anatomy, healing, resist, wrestle, and maybe a few others i'm forgetting. Second, there are no skills like bushido, chivalry, etc

The skill cap here is 700 points but can be raised to 720 by using powerscrolls, again, with non-pvp skills. Once you're at the skill cap, you can raise or lower any skill whenever you want and allocate those points into the skills you want.

As far as templates are concerned, I'm sure others will chime in

Maybe something like:

100/80/45
Magery 100 - reduced by 20, as it's the cap in this server
Eval int 100 - increased by 10
Swordsmanship 100 - reduced by 20, as it's the cap in this server
Tactics 100 - reduced by 20, as it's the cap in this server
Resist Spells 100
Healing 100 - heal yourself, aswell as cure poison
Anatomy 100 - increase the amount you can heal by. Increases damage. combined with Eval Int - provides a chance to dodge (i think?)

I've also found that being a provoker makes the world an easier place in PvE, if you want this route, then maybe get rid of Resist Spells & Eval Int - to be replaced with Musicianship & provoking.

just my thoughts

Ohh, alright. The guides I read were about Ultima Online, so I assumed it would be the same here in Forever.

The template looks very nice, that's probably what I'll gravitate towards eventually, but if I may ask, why take all those points off of Int and putting them in Dex? Won't I need them more for spellcasting? Also, from what I've heard, Healing is unnecessary if you have decent Magery and potions (though I am aware of the bonus Anatomy provides to Healing).
And one last thing, which armor and weapon types should I use? As far as I know, heavier armors make hit slower, and I'm at a complete loss with weapons, haha.

one thing to note is without Meditation your magery and eval will be useless as you will never have Mana.

UO changed a lot over the years, most things you read online will be incorrect when playing a Resonance era UO.

Healing is a must for any warrior class. the only exception to this is a tank mage which is a very complicated build to play, and I highly recommend against it until you fully understand UO Mechanics. Healing allows you to heal without un-equipping your weapon. magery and potions are emergency only type healing on warriors.

I think what your looking for is a Med warrior. not a bad starting build. I would recommend the following for that.

Swords (also lets you use axes)
tactics
anatomy
healing
magic resist
magery
meditation

Stats very but I would suggest
95 60 70

All in all its a pretty well rounded build, you wont be able to take on high end MOBs and you wont be a great PVP build, but its not a push over.

if you're looking for more PVM I would suggest

swords (archery is better but use what you like)
tactics
anat
healing
magery (can also use hiding here)
provocation
Musicianship .

100 90 35

that's an easy and effective PVM build.

For PVP I think you would like

swords (use axes)
tactics
anat
healing
magery
resisting spells
Lumberjacking (this gives a damage bonus when using axe weapons)

100 90 35 (if you want to use more magery 100 70 55)

as to your questions about armor and weapons.

Plate and dragon armor will lower your dex stat, your dex stat sets your max stamina stat, as stamina goes down your swing speed will decrease. it works in tiers of 30, so 1-30 dex is slowest SS, 120-150 is fastest (only way to get 120 is with agility potion and 100 dex)

leather armor is the only armor you can med in and is the only armor any mage will use.

different weapons have different damage and SS, I recommend just trying a few out till you find something you like. arguably the best for swords is the Katana (Has a fast SS and good damage), im not sure on axes.

I hope this information helps, and welcome to the best MMORPG ever made.

Wow, this explains a ton! You, sir, deserve a gem of immortality.

I think I'll do the first med build you presented, and when I get a good taste of both PvP and PvE I'll try to go towards one way or another.
Well, I have nothing else to ask... If anyone wants to complement the information, be my guest.

I went with a fairly odd but effective build after recently acquiring a beastly Katana and Axe. Testing both on mobs in a champ spawn I was already hooked.

Swords
Mage
Med
Tactics
Hiding
Music
Provo 110

stats 100 str 60 dex 65 int

Essentially this setup was used with bows but I liked hitting faster and stronger with swords. After a few practice runs your provo should take of everything. Why else would I be doing this setup without healing? :D On average I was hitting around 100+ damage with axes and 60-90 damage with Katana slayer weapons. Just need to keep pots available along with a few regs in a pouch to take on majority of mobs including Balrons, elder dragons, Wyrrms, Lich's(Easy mode). Perfect build for getting that little Umph in damage during champ spawns because you can cast EV's all day long. So don't forget to just use scrolls instead to lessen your fizzles. I usually keep reflect up and since you will be doing heals with magery, then light pleather armer will suit you perfectly. This build is agile on his feet with a few tricks up his sleeve to provo or run and hide like a biotch when the time comes.
