Gold Sink + Extra Housing

Greetings all you lovely people !

This is an idea that's been kicked around over the year+. Now that UOF has been growing more and more, I do not see housing for sale nearly as often as I used to even when taking into account Booty Island.

Is there any possibility in taking a town like - Magincia , Nujel'm or Serpents Hold (examples) , and changing the buildings around a little and allowing players to "rent out" these buildings for "X" gold weekly per month?

PROS:
* it would create some much needed housing
* it would create a constant gold sink
* it would put to good use - some buildings in towns that are never used

CONS:
* ?????

This would be cool. Not sure how hard it would be to edit the .map files. Also, would be cool to have actual NPC guilds as well.

Obviously the thieves guild is well utilized, but if they were interested in making some kind of daily's for a little extra loot, take the idea away from WoW and implement some other new stuff that has to do with the...
  • Warriors Guild
  • Mages Guild
  • Tamers Guild (?)
  • Crafters - Already have bods
  • Bards ?
I feel like there are alot of housing spots taken up by people who don't even play.

That would be awesome, I would be on board and not have it take up a house space, even place some NPCs or something. I would love to run a tavern in town. I am all for it.

In all honesty, I don't think this shard needs more housing space. Half the plots are just empty... even several 30x30 ones! People are just occupying the lands without utilizing them. Meanwhile, I've been visiting a greatly worn house for the last 4 or 5 days without any change (I thought this phase only lasted up to 48h's?). So I'd rather see some kind of penalization for multi-account owners who just have additional empty plots.

An idea would be to alter the decaying rate based on a few parameters to measure its grade of utilization/occupation. Let's assume the default decaying rate from new to collapsing is 20 days (just as a reference).

How we alter the default decaying rate to 3 days and you can get 17 days extra by:

Using lockdowns/secures. If you start using them, you get more time.
  • Current lockdowns/secures > 10% of the maximum number of locksdowns/secures: + 1 day
  • Current lockdowns/secures > 20% of the maximum number of locksdowns/secures: + 1 day (total of +2 days)
  • Current lockdowns/secures > 30% of the maximum number of locksdowns/secures: + 1 day (total of +3 days)
  • Current lockdowns/secures > 40% of the maximum number of locksdowns/secures: + 1 day (total of +4 days)
  • Current lockdowns/secures > 50% of the maximum number of locksdowns/secures: + 2 day (total of +6 days)

Using customization. If you customize your house, you get more time.
  • Customization cost > 20% of the plot cost: + 1 day
  • Customization cost > 40% of the plot cost: + 1 day (total of +2 days)
  • Customization cost > 60% of the plot cost: + 1 day (total of +3 days)
  • Customization cost > 80% of the plot cost: + 1 day (total of +4 days)
  • Customization cost > 100% of the plot cost: + 2 day (total of +6 days)
  • Classic houses get a forfeit of +2 days or you could add some 'upgrade feature' perhaps.

Using vendors. If you place NPCs, you get more time.
  • One or more vendors/bartenders/etc: +1 day

There would be some technical difficulties, like: What if any of these parameters change? How would that reflect upon the current decay of the house? Simple: Any changes should automaticly renew the house so you start with a fresh decay counter anyway. The only thing you'd need to do is remove 'public' secures in the equation.

I don't think this will work, those empty plots are controlled by hardcore players who play everyday (idocers), they will just login and refresh the house, however, some of the plots without customization are belong to some new players (or casual players) who don't have enough gold to build their houses yet, they probably play 1 hour per day or 2 times per week, you don't want to see their plots disappear when they finally have time to play. .

Maybe a player with the same IP who has 3 houses and one of the house is an empty plot should pay extra gold per day or per week, but this still won't solve the problem of using VPN to change their IP..

The idea is to discourage hardcore players from leaving these plots empty, having to refresh every 3 days is a hassle. I agree that newer players will be impacted as well, but even if they don't have the gold to build the house yet, at least they will utilize it with secures and actual 'non intended' refresh visits.

hmm... hardcore players will lockdown some chests and throw some craps inside until they find the buyer.

I like this idea. A player run town would be more interesting. It'd be an awesome gold sink as you say.
