Client hangs creating new characters

I've been unable to create a new character because the client hangs on the "creating character" dialogue and appears to have crashed.
Any ideas what the problem may be.
I'm running a fresh install of the UOF client.

you can only create 3 chars per account . More slots cost 1mil @ goldsink vendor
