casting through chaos/order shields

Publish 13 you could cast while wielding a chaos or order shield it made parrying I viable pvp template would be great to see this here

Nope I'm relying on peoples knowledge of the game the publish was the same one that had you could only cast with spellbook armed

I looked through all of the publishes on uo.com (including those from 1997-1998) but didn't see any mention of it. I did find what the Order Chaos system was called before it was Order/Chaos (Virtue Guard) which was interesting.

My understanding of the roach mage history is that it was an unintended side effect (aka bug) in UO early on (like 1997-early 98) and fixed a couple months later. Then it came back when the spell channeling mechanic appeared on weapons, armor, and shields after Pub16.


All of that said. The problem with it in the UO:R type era is that it makes mages, who are already super-powered, pretty much invincible vs dexxors. It would unbalance the play field.

maybe if parry only shaved dmg and not whole hits, it could be balanced then with higher max dmg.

problem then becomes mages needing parry which isn't really the type of pvp most players enjoy.
