Carpentry Skill gain problem?

So my carpentry skill hit 74.2 shown yesterday and started making quarter staff ( 51.1 success rate ) .
I used 800 woods and made hundreds of staff but not 0.1 gain. Then I used another 800 woods yet not a single gain as well.
So I went back to wood shield and i got 0.3 gain with merely 500 woods.

I'm following a carpentry guide and it said it's a good idea to make quarter staff at my skill level but it seems like not the case. So what should I make next after wooden shield? thx

Fishing Poles for a few points then try the Q Staff.

are you in a dungeon? that helps, I followed the guide and gmed but sometimes it felt like I wasn't gaining, try dying and rezzing, eat some food. run around a little.

also are you looking at real stats vs shown when looking at the guide? go by the real when you need to switch to the next item in skill gains, b/c shown you can start too early
