Are platinum and donation coins the same thing?

Donation coins you get from giving Shane money, or buy them from a player. They go to the donation vendors.
Platinum drop in paragon chests, and I believe a few other places, and can be used on the platinum donation vendor.
200k gold = 1k don coins *roughly*
30k gold = 1k platinum coins *roughly*
