i know wrestling is needed to aid decrease melee attacks. Is anatomy or any other skill needed for this to work?

correct, anatomy helps weapon damage and healing. Wrestling will decrease how often you get hit.

You can also have defensive wrestling where you have anatomy and eval int and while you wont be able to use wrestling to stun or punch someone else to interrupt you will have the same defensive benefits as a GM wrestler would in terms of not having your spells interrupted.
