Provo mage Stats/Skills.

Hello again! I apologies for so many post recently but the questions are endless. What would be some good builds for a provomage?

kurtis

Grandmaster
100 Magery
100 Eval
100+ Provo (get it to at least 115)
100 Musicianship
100 Wrestling
100 Meditation
100 Hiding or Resist

You should 100 str, 100 int, 25 dex. You have no need for dexterity on a pure mage provo. If you're sticking around to fight and find yourself getting mindblasted, you can just carry a few agility pots to balance the stats a little.

I preferred hiding over resist when I first made the char. But once I learned my spots, had my macros in order, and was just generally comfortable with my char, I dropped hiding and switched to Resist. Resist increases survivability greatly and prevents you from getting absolutely creamed by Mages. It's also really nice in a high-profit places like Khaldun, where the mobs constantly cast hard-hitting spells.

Provo/mage:

90 str
95 int
40 dex
(always use bless when possible)

Provoke-120
Music-100
Magery-100
Resist-100
Eval Int-100
Meditation-100

For the last 100 points...

Hiding- A utility skill that is good in and out of combat. With provo/mage you can provoke stuff and then hide. Keeps you safe from pks generally. Also useful to hide while positioning yourself for a provoke. 10/10
Wresling- Wrestling gives you a chance to cast spells while being attacked. I have 2 bard/mage and I don't use wrestle, and I literally have never noticed a difference. You aren't suppose to be up close with the enemy, you have the ability to do crowd control and with hide and invis and para and provoke, you should never need wrestling. 2/10
Spirit Speak- Recently they made spirit speak give you mana in return when casting spells in PvM...if you want to try to increase damage output, you can try this. However, much like a provo/dexxer, you will not be able to use hide effectively if you are using meditate, and casting spells. 4/10

I would go with Hide all day.

For a dexxer/mage rq

95str/95dex/35int

Provoke
Music
Weapon Skill
Tactics
Anatomy
Healing

Then leaves you 100 points to spend on magery or resist. I split it 55/45 mage/resist the utility of the level 4 mage spells is great. However with gm resist and a runebook you can be more efficient overall if you wanna be fighting high end caster mobs, just sucks having no magery. I like having the first 4 circles, and being able to cast 5-7 with scrolls.

if you dont get wrestling you will be in trouble vs dexxer pks
if you dont get resist you will be weaker vs mage pks, and sometimes some monsters will nuke you while you are trying to provo them and you will die.
vs pks hiding is great at dungeons.

100 eval is actually equal to 50 wrestling btw. i mean if u dont have any wrestling it is. so you still have some chance to Dodge weapon attacks even without wrestling.

First off, why do you even bother posting when you have no concept of how the game works, and you are giving people terrible advice? Second, what drugs are you on because they seem amazing.
if you dont get wrestling you will be in trouble vs dexxer pks-- no, you are not a pvp char...if a dexxer pk is after you then don't let them get close...if you are letting them get close enough to melee you, then it is user error...
if you dont get resist you will be weaker vs mage pks, and sometimes some monsters will nuke you while you are trying to provo them and you will die.- no, you are not a pvp char...you do realize that, right? A PvP char is someone that fights other players, pvm is against monsters...for a provo/mage you are going to have resist regardless...for a bard/dexxer...YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE A PVP CHAR. If they get the drop on you, you are dead. This is a character for niche farming, not pvp.
vs pks hiding is great at dungeons. -it isn't that great, any decent PKs have track and if you are hiding chances are you are dead...it CAN be useful if you are smart but it sounds like that is so far from the case. I don't know what the point of your rambling excuse for a post is, but if you are saying that a bard/dexxer should have hide that is ludicrous...what good is hide when YOU ARE DEXXING THE MOB TO DEATH. You can't hide and use a weapon, so its a broken build. Again, I don't really know wtf you mean because your post is an incoherent rambling mess without a shred of useful info.

100 eval is actually equal to 50 wrestling btw. i mean if u dont have any wrestling it is. so you still have some chance to Dodge weapon attacks even without wrestling.- no, 100% wrong. If you have the correct skills you are able to get defensive wrestling. EVAL DOES NOT GIVE DEFENSIVE WRESTLING. You need gm eval and gm anatomy BOTH. Unless you are a tank/mage, you don't even wanna worry about this.

All it means is that tank/mages that have a weapon skill, tact, ANAT, EVAL, med, magery , resist.....they will have the effect of "defensive wrestling" when the weapon is not equipped so they don't lose mage viability when unarmed.

The impression I have so far, is that pvp takes place everywhere. I actually quit playing from my provo mage because of the great weakness he has against pkers. wrestling did seem fine at the time, but now after i reached to 100% it seems so useless. I'll take your advice, thanks.

My build:

Provoke-120
Music-100
Magery-100
Resist-100
Eval Int-100
Meditation-100
Wrestling-100

STR/DEX/INT 100/25/100

The debate of wrestling vs hiding is interesting. I've never considered trying it, but this build has worked for me and made a lot of cash in the past for me, so I've been reluctant to change it. I have had many "oh shit" moments and perhaps wrestling helped me there, but I can't point out any specific instances.

If you get inso close to a mob that wrestling becomes relevant.....you're doing it wrong.
If the wrestling is somehow for dexxer pks..I would say a hide macro key is far superior. Then recall when he casts reveal.

I'm not arguing the merits of one over the other, but merely offering anecdotal evidence of what has worked for me.

why go with 40 dex on a pvm character? shouldn't be worried about mindblast

Many people like provo over GM, but I haven't seen a huge need. I do fine with GM.

your skill cap can increase to 720 with powerscrolls so if you get a provo PS theres no reason not to use it

Sure, I'd just as soon do peacemaking to 120, drop it and and use the 20 points elsewhere.

Have you found 120 provo to allow you to provo things that you can't provo with GM?

I remember failing a lot until I got to 110 Provo. I'm at 115 Provo now and never fail. I recommend getting to at least 110 Provo.

nah you can provo everything but you get 100% success rate at 120 and failing on a ancient wyrm can certainly lead to death
