I think most of us can agree that there is little to no incentive to sink ships.

I think sinking ships would be more exciting IF there was loot on the ships, or if we could some how earn some money from sinking a ship.

    Here are my ideas:

    Boat mining:
There are several locations where nodes can be mined from a ship. I think if there was some type of benefit to boat mining, more people would do it, and would likely have loads of ore on their ship. This would be great for pirates.
There could also be a feature where you shoot cannons (maybe with special cannon balls) to mine several nodes simultaneously.
Maybe an additional island could be added that has more of these boat mining locations.

    Ship Bounty System
What if when you sunk a ship, and got the booty, there was a deed or something that when double clicked; would bring up a bounty offer menu similar to the red bounty system.
Should ships lose experience when sunk?

    Pirates love booty
I think it should be more difficult to transport loot from the ocean to land, to our houses. The ships hold and any booty chests on the ship should only be able to be off-loaded onto land.
    -OR-
Does anyone remember moonstones? Those little stones you clicked to open a portal to wherever. They took about 30 seconds to open the portal. What if that was the only way to get off of a boat? This means if a ship was attacked they couldn't get their loot away so easily.
    -OR-
There could be a flee of battle type of thing when you get attacked on a boat.

So, I think any of these ideas would give pirates more reasons to be on the high seas. In my experience, sinking a ship rarely leads to any profits.
If any of these ideas have some flaws, please don't disregard all of them. Give credit where credit is due!

Let me know what you guys think, and if any of these things should be implemented.

    Thanks!

Some are pretty good. I'm still not a fan of losing ships because galleons are millions and even other boats there's some decent time and gold investment in leveling and colors, etc.
But metas can be lost, right? IF the person doesn't link them. So maybe they can do a ship ball..lol. Make it look like a cannon. And you have to link your ship. If it gets sunk you can use it to get it back. So 1. it can be gold sync item and 2. if that person doesn't ball, they lose their ship. However, that still doesn't increase bounty except maybe a new galleon, which isn't terrible.

Well i'm not saying to lose the ship completely..... but some type of bounty system similar to how the red bounty works.

They had ransoming back in the day - and it worked. Ideas have been tossed around but nothing has ever been investigated to make ships more meaningful than just a AFK mibbing platform. We still made plenty of gold, but as you said, it's really easy to just recall chests off and go back to the ship while watching Netflix, risking little for a lot. Don't get your hopes up that it'll change.

As for incentive, there's always an incentive to sink ships. Give folks something to talk about.

There is a way to flag for no fleeing. Grapple into a boat.

i could go with boat mining, even do a ship addon for a forge so you can smelt where all the ingots auto transfer to the hold. that way if you're sunk while mining they can get loot.

The Britannian class galleon had an add-on slot for that very thing with the UO booster Adventures on the High Seas.

Hey, @oomf, you heard any news on when Shane's releasing that bad boy? lol

Dont give up hope my friend, it could happen any day now, I mean militia was great right . :D

That aside I like this guys Ideas, lets give people a reason to get on a boat.
I think the boat pvp aspect should be a lot slower and less of who gets the first shot off and more like actual pvp. - get rid of firefeild bs - allow boat repair without resources(cus no ones using them currently)

Boat PvP was fine. The fact no one wanted to PvP on a ship and a lack of consequences for abandoning ship killed naval combat.

The rapid nature of ship-to-ship battles was great, and it was the only PvP in UO that allowed every PvP template to shine: melee (including Parry - or should I say, especially Parry), ranged (specifically Archery), magery (from knuckle-dragging sync dumping to fields and summon-catapults), taming (all kill = no skill, but it worked) and every combination thereof. Repairing was difficult and it meant an engagement was a commitment; running forever to reset wasn't exactly an option if you were going to repair (though most people just "came about" and burst sped away, mass recalled and ditched their ship - which was a major downer). There was plenty of depth to the system, just no one wanted to actually jump into it.

Ideas for getting people out to sea have been half-assed since 2013. Don't hold your breath, not while LoA is looming on the horizons.

What is LoA? I've missed that.
