Remove Trap HELP Please?

I am trying to raise remove trap on a Thief Template and it is moving slower than molasses!! I have searched forums and found no real guide as to training it. If anyone can help with some input, it would be appreciated. Some info about my char.

I've just been in the West Brit jewelry store removing trap from the metal boxes. Started at 48 and currently at 76. But it has been slow as heck. Is this the right way to raise the skill at my level? I do not have tinkering on the char, stats are 90 str. 79 dex and 56 int. (Still gaining stats) What am I doing wrong, or if I'm on the right path, when and where do I need to switch things up? Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem.. seemed to stop gaining completely at west brit jeweler when I hit 76 so I tried gm tinker boxes, to high of course so no gains. Been stealthing around dungeons for about 2-3 hours but only 0.1 gain off the chests. They're either successful on the first try or impossible to remove. At least they don't kill you if they're too high :)

Did some searching on forums and it looks like the only way to GM it without spending longer than gming taming is to create a new char and keep his tinkering just ahead of your remove traps. Then put a box on the ground, apply trap, remove with thief and reapply with tinker.

Hell of a lot of work for a useless skill so I'm still trying to just play the game and see if I can find a super-secret-magic chest that gives gains in one of the dungeons instead :)

Nvm, went back to west/east brit jewellers and I've gained up to 87.5 in about 30 hours of macroing, was probably veeeeery unlucky to not get a single gain in an hour at 76 then. Will see how long I can gain off this... but with a few more points I should be able to remove traps even the higher level chests in dungeons :)

Ok, short update. Not sure if gloves help or not but I put a pair of plate gloves on and I've been gaining sloooowly up to 88.4, but at this point I was getting like 0.1 per hour, tried some dungeon chests and couldn't remove traps on them.

But picked up my GM tinker, made a box (0 carp, gm tink), set him to constantly apply dart trap onto the box (on the ground) and had my lockpicker use remove traps on it. Just keep the box unlocked, there's no need to lock the box to use remove traps and get gains.

Gained 1.5 in less than 30 minutes now, will see if I can gain off dart traps all the way to GM or if I have to switch. Either way, the gains are really good at the moment and there's no need to keep a tinkerer at the same level as your remove trap.

I found that if you work tinkering as you work remove trap your skill for tinkering equals your skill for removing trap and I was able to gain quite frequently. Hope this helps

I'd personally love to see every trap removable only by this skill, both player and treasure chest made. Abusing telekinesis, oh you awful lazy bastards.. :)

Went from 88 to GM in like two hours last night using GM Tinker dart traps.

So basically stand at brit west/east jeweller for a couple of days and once at 87-88, drop a box on the floor in a dungeon, have a gm tinker loop a apply dart trap macro on an unlocked box. Loop remove trap on your other char, no need to bother with locking the box it works anyway.

GM in no time!

Son of...My GM Tinker and dungeon picker are on the same account! 92.6 RT from dungeon chest after chest after chest. Guess I may just have to make 100 trapped dart boxes at a time and head into a dungeon...Great insight, thanks!

FYI I think I used just under 1000 ingots/bolts to get the last bit up to GM. Maybe about 800, not sure, had to do bunch of runs to provisioners to restock before they respawned with larger amounts :)

This method does work. Did some tedious trapping of about 150 boxes and took them to the dungeons. From 92.6 to 95.2 in about an hour. At least GM looks like it is in sight.

Once I hit GM, I might attack the next burning question: Do you really need to have detect hidden to remove traps? Fortunately, Detect hidden is easily re-trained if it truly is a necessity.

My sneaky lockpicker has 2.2 detect hidden and I can remove traps from all dungeon chests still so apparently you don't need it.

GMed it after a few trips to Level 1 Despise. At GM, what do you think happened on the very first chest I tried to remove trap? FAIL! Got it on the third try.

Thinking I may just drop it back down to 90ish, since anything that is truly going to give me problems, (high end paragon chest or T chests) I am probably going to telekinesis anyway.

Until then, I will walk around proudly with my "Grandmaster Trap Specialist" title.

I was able to get RT up to 90 at the jeweler near the West Brit Bank. I also have a nice set up at my house that I have been using to work the skill from there.

I have a single box on the steps of my house. Inside it I have 33 more boxes. Using my GM Tinker (separate character), I set up a giant macro that will go through the box, trap each chest, lock it to activate the trap, then unlock it. This macro took a while to set up, but it works pretty good. I have to have the keys on 3 separate key rings since there are so many, but I have the chests in 3 rows, so one key ring per row.

Using this chest, I was able to get my RT up to 91 last night (4 runs through the chest). Gains are still slow, but seems to be working. It will probably level out at some point soon, but I assume that if I took my Tink up to 105 or 110, I could keep getting some gains this way.

Read my post on how to GM a few posts up.... Was a while ago I did it now but you should be able to GM in a few hours from 90..

Yeah, I read it. My only issue is that my toon that I am working on RT with is not my Tinker, so the dungeon method would be very hard for me to try.

Would take longer sure but if you get on your tinker and trap maybe 50 boxes and go to the dungeon with your RT char to remove traps and then repeat until gm, it'll still be doable in an afternoon.

I had a similar issue that my tinker was on the same account as my picker but different character. I went from 92 to GM in about 4 hours which included trapping about 400 boxes, 50 at a time, and then recalling into a dungeon. Definitely a little time consuming, but easy gains.

OK, I may give that a try. My first attempts at this involved several deaths. I trapped the chests in my pack, then as soon as I tried to move the back with the chests (didn't try to open the boxes), my Tinker caught a sudden case of instant death. Since this was inside my house, I assumed it was a trap (or a bunch of traps) going off while moving them. Since then, I haven't tried to move trapped chests around much at all.

It is good to know you can get to GM RT with GM Tinker traps....didn't know if it was like lock picking where you maxed out at around 95 or so.

If you are using razor, make sure you uncheck the Auto Search New Containers on the Display/Counters Tab. Always hilarious when you pick up a box/bag of the ground and there is a car bomb inside, but not when you are trying to transfer a known insta-death box, let alone 50 of them, from one character to another.

I macroed RT at the wbb jeweler's shop and lockpicking with gm made chests till I did not gain anymore.

I then GMed both RT and lockpicking at around the same time by opening metal and wooden chests in dungeons. You can gm both skills pretty fast if you know enough locations and if you're doing this at non-peak hours. I cycled through about 40 chest spots each time, and by the times I was done, the first chests already respawned. If you loot and sell the magical items you also make a little fortune by the time you hit GM.
