Inscription Guide with Cost

I wanted to know how much inscription cost to GM, but I couldn't find a thread like this. Therefore, I recorded my gains to make one. I did 100% of my training in a dungeon, so add 50% to the cost if you're training outside one.

To GM inscription from 0:
  • I trained it to 48.4 from an npc mage.
  • I made lightning scrolls to 60.4
  • I made energy bolt scrolls to 75.2
  • I made flame strike scrolls to 96.2
  • I made earth elemental scrolls to GM
I don't know how far from the optimum way this is, but I gmed it in less than day for cheap.

In total, I used:
  • 3457 Blank Scrolls
  • 557 Mandrake
  • 367 Blood Moss
  • 2290 Sulfurous Ash
  • 800 Black Pearl
  • 800 Nightshade
  • 2467 Spider's Silk
I received:
  • 177 Earth Elemental Scrolls
  • 1047 Flame Strike Scrolls
  • 355 Energy Bolt Scrolls
  • 144 Lightning Scrolls
I sold the scrolls to the npc mage vendor for:
  • Lightning 6 each = 864 gold
  • Energy Bolt 10 each = 3550 gold
  • Flame Strike 12 each = 12564 gold
  • Earth Elemental Scrolls 14 each = 2478 gold
Total Loss is: 19,456 profit from scrolls - 30,724 cost of scrolls - 378 to train from npc = -11,646 gold. It costs 11,646 gold to gm inscription from 0.

Here is my data:

I did Recall, ebolt, Flame Strike, and then Energy Vortex scrolls. I prefer this way because you can get a lot if money from players for the recall scrolls, and they sell quickly. Then you can use your EV scrolls to farm with and get a better return than selling to NPCs.

Doing it either way makes this skill cheap!

This is overall cost, not the cost to train from 0-GM.

Great write up though, thanks for being thorough.

I have GMd inscription quite a few times on the past and although the scrolls you made were the cheapest per say, they were not the cheapest as they are only good for selling back to NPCs. This is of course my opinion.

You should always make recall and gate scrolls through the process as these can ALWAYs be used in the future for making rune books or charging them. Energy vortex is also arguably better to make than EQ as those scrolls can be used where EQ is nerfed on this shard.

Best place to buy blank scrolls? The lycaeum on Verity island (aka moonglow).

since this is a inscribe thread, what do recall scrolls go for? noob question, but a serious question non the less. Sell by 10, by 25, 50? 100? Prices?

Thanks for the guide. It worked well. Here is the macro I used for those that need help. Copy\Paste into Notepad. Save the file. then rename it with the .macro extension and copy\paste into your Razor Macro Folder.

This is the Use Item by Type, Make Last Macro the others suggested. I threw in a conditional for Mana so that you'll meditate to work a bit faster. Remember to stay fed and you have to do this in a dungeon, the bonus to skill is to good to pass up.

Were these show real skill points or no?
ya most guides will post only real stats and shown doesnt properly reflect growth.

look for the guild master npc's they normally train a bit higher than the regular ones. they normally show guildmaster title in their paperdoll
What's interesting is that shown skill is more accurate than real skill. Shown skill is the real skill (base skill) plus stat enhancements. The shown skill is what determines the rate of success for the skill. The real skill really only plays into where items cap off on skill - for example, when training magery, you can only gain magery off of mana drain up to around 65.2 (real skill), but the success rate of casting that spell is based off of the shown skill.

This means that for training, you should take into account the shown skill and not the real skill. The real skill only tells you when you should move to the next phase of the training (ie.. change spell, craft new item, etc).

yes i agree , sorry i probably worded it wrong with "improper growth" i meant that you will gain in the skill like you are under real. i.e. with a +25 bow, when you are at 75(real, 80 shown), you will gain skills like you are 75, not 105 (atleast thats what ive seen so far)

Have skill gains been nerfed? I'm at around 60k in both regs and scrolls, and I'm only at 75.4 I made recalls, then energy bolts, then marks, and now I'm on Flamestrikes, with gains at a snails pace. Like .4 per 500 regs/scrolls. #killmenow

Can I ask, why Earth Elemental scrolls?

I wrote Rez scrolls because it took only 3 reagents instead of 4 (like Earth Elemental). Does it give better gains over Rez scrolls?

Also, I have like 200+ rez scrolls if you need any. :p
