Is this the Golden Age of post-OSI UO?

I played OSI. I played a few other private servers in my time but I'm finding it hard to tear away from UOF in ways I couldn't describe without bringing up Atlantic around 1999.

Sure, most of the PKs are low class and plentiful but the population is insane: tons of carebears, lots of pvpers, innumerable players whose language I can't even identify....population diversity is the secret to a good server.

Talismans. New dungeons and land masses. Motm. It's hard to put a lot of this down even if tweaks are needed here and there.

Thank you, staff.

Yup... running around with blessed two-handed perfect valorite runics that do 60 damage while being able to throw purple potions that are unavoidable and do 25 damage on the run...

Not to mention all the new assist programs and client modding and scripting that basically play the game for you (timing drops, telling you when to heal, insta targetting/dropping spells with the click of a button, automatically stealing things before a normal human could ever have time to react, modifying client graphics....)

Certainly the golden age of UO.

Ah yes, the 3 blessed valorite katanas being used by defensive talis. Get into world pvp, maybe.

I have to agree with you Ludwig - I've been here for just over a year now, and can't put this game down again.. A 20 year old game!!! The server has a ton of content, and it's improving all the time..

Just to highlight a few:
  • Seafaring - galleons - combat, whirlpools, sea champ - if you haven't tried it you must!! so much fun
  • MoTM - this pulls you away from farming the same mobs over and over (we've all been there!)
  • Monster Contracts - great concept, gets you into new dungeons, fighting new mobs!
  • Miltias - 4 team factions was always a problem everyone joined one team, militias has soo much potential, smaller teams, guild based - with some tweaks I think the activity could skyrocket.
  • Meta Pets - Dragons, Steeds & Spiders oh my!!
  • Meta Talismans - for PvM giving mages / dexxers some spice really creates diversity in the field, otherwise you'd only have provo tamers
  • Custom dungeons - these are way under utilized but so much fun!
  • Level 7 tmaps - did our first one as a guild the other night, not for the feint of heart!
  • Events - even though they are oft repeated, everyone loves a good invasion - one of my best memories from OSi days, was the first Halloween event I stumbled into, Vesper was attacked by the undead.
The reality is, there are going to be things that some don't like, but I think everyone can admit (unless they are lying to themselves), that the good coming out of this server far outweighs anything we disagree with - and it's impossible to make everything perfect for everyone, especially without giving them time. I know I don't always see eye to eye on design decisions, and because I'm a passionate player, that sometimes comes across as not appreciating what we do have here (which is amazing), because I'm always looking to see improvements in my own vision (theorycrafter curse!!)..

But I'll happily share in a HUGE round of THANKS! to the Staff here! @Shane @eppy @Swayze @JoeB @Faytality (I hope I didn't miss anyone!!!) You guys provide the platform, for a community to thrive here, it probably doesn't get said enough, but it definitely doesn't go unnoticed!

Scriptin' pete's spear doesn't do 60 damage though, and he only plays a blue, so he is of little concern to 99% of the population.

But yes, i agree totally with the theme of your post.

The truth: the only pvp worth engaging in is world pvp. Dueling tournament arena stuff is boooring. I've never seen anyone running around dungeons with a valorite anything.

In Por Ylem was the golden age of post-OSI UO. it was the most exciting player sun server until it death spiraled not due to player population but the admin's dramas

but UOF sets the bar for consistently good, reliable, you don't worry if all your shit will just be gone one day cus the admins went nuts

IPY was a pile of rubbish.

Didn't the owner go on a drug binge then neck himself because his 1/10 girlfriend left him? Like someone should have counseled him that pulling a 2.5/10 would have been easier than running his crappy uo server.

UOF is the best shard bar none. Sure I'm still waiting on Kingdoms spring 2016, but it has the most active population on a game that probably has a few years left tops.

The amount of time and dedication you have for every informative post you create still makes me shake my head (in a good way).
You seem to watch everything pretty closely, then post detailed, informative and thought out posts on each subject that comes up. We appreciate it for sure and appreciate you helping everyone in the community.
Your passion definitely shows, i know you haven't been here since day 1 but you are starting to catch up to those who have been. It's a really positive great thing all around and i thank you for that.

Keep on keeping on!

Amen.
I played IPY, donated to there- Played IPY2 as well... I was totally tired of starting on a server, donating to it, just to have it fail within 6 months- then they launch again as "Server Name 2", then "Server Name 3" when the second one fails.... Honestly, enough is enough- Players deserve better than that.

Now they have it.

A ton of the major aspects within Kingdoms is actually in game now, believe it or not.... With that said, if we did implement the ENTIRE Kingdoms expansion during that time in 2016, we honestly would not be here posting on this forum right now as it would of killed UOFOREVER. It was way too much, way too soon. It changed the entire game almost pvp wise. There's aspects we eventually will add that we haven't yet and left out, and thank goodness for that. As much as people like to poke fun at us fpr not going through with the Kingdoms expansion 100%, truth be told, that single choice of not putting it in definitely saved UOForever in the long run.

Also i remember in 2014 when people said we'de be lucky to be up and running in a few years. I remember people saying we would have a really short life span, yet here we are. If i believed and fed into that crap we definitely wouldn't be here- however i honestly and passionately believe that UOF will keep going for another 5 years easily... Which would make 10+ years in total.

Personally? I think and have always thought UO is Minecraft, Day Z, Sims, Pokemon, all put into one but even more... Every one of those games are huge in their own way, there's absolutely no reason why UO cannot be insanely huge as well.

Overall, I agree, although I preferred their lottery style donation system much, much more. Dono rewards felt so much more valuable, in my opinion. I also liked the idea of major islands you couldn't reach except by boat. Nothing UOF can't do but just throwing it out there.
