Fields of Green?

Any chance the developers might consider and "fields of green" type of scenario? Where there is a simple server set up creating a flat green area with minimal to no spawn where folks could just have open area for building their houses? I would LOVE to have a 30X30 but the cost of these over sized houses and the sheer lack of room make it a near impossibility.

Ugh, I hope not. That would ruin half of the game economy plus it would take away a large part of the game for many.
How would it ruin the economy, there would immediately be a BOOM of folks scurrying around trying to buy tools or deeds, and then more as folks tried to decorate and fill their houses up?

My experience from when new housing lands on OSI was opened was that there was not more deco items sold, only more empty plots all over the world.

I disagree with this as well, especially since there are a ton of vacant plots currently. Not only that, there are a lot of IDOCs that are still happening, which creates the aspect of how the server isn't so full that it is impossible to obtain a house. I get the idea of wanting a bigger house, but maybe that is half the fun, trying to track down owners in a desirable area and purchase their homes, to build the dream home. :) The economy would go down even more if areas like this were open, we need to keep the market stable or increase and this seems like it would drop. Also, on a side note, we already had this form of an idea with Booty Island. :)

We got a very progessive real estate market because of the rarity of spots. Players carry house placement tools all the time to catch a new plot for selling. I agree, larger plots are pretty expensive and rare, but the supply/demand balance isn't out of space. There will be a decline in value for large plots when using fields of green. That's pretty unfair to all the player who saved millions of gold to buy a large plot before.

I think in addition to the above answers, what might help you understand the most is that the economy is not boomed by a one time occurance. If we opened a grasslands for housing, tons of houses would be immediately placed, probably quite a few castles and 30x30s. Deco would be sold and houses would be decorated and gold would be taken out of the economy for those custom houses that require a lot of dough to configure. We would even sell a lot of dono items.

But that would happen over 1-2 weeks, then we would be back to where we are and since there would then be quite a few new large homes, the price of all of them would drop permanently.

We have quite a few plots that are placed but for sale already -- I don't think there is any reason to not own a house at this point. The large houses are (and should be) more end-game content -- something for you to build up to.

Greenman, last year I was able to get a 30x30 from a raffle. I expect another to be held in the coming months.
Well if you want an engineer/graphics major to come do any design work on it, let me know, It was one of my favorite things to do when I was on Lake Superior. I have just always liked the architecture aspect of the game. :)
