Complete vendor and market revamp is needed

Is it possible to implement a server-wide auction house or a market, where players would put their items, pay a fee and all the items would be available, sorted by categories and by price?

Current vendor placing is so ineffective and counter-intuitive.

You would expect to have such an instance in a world where lots of items are traded. Somewhere near Britain bank. I would propose to replace the poker tables with the market.

This would bring so many gameplay opportunities, like a trader only character. Also, increasing fees for auctioning your items would benefit the economy and the ingame currency.

I'm 100% against this idea for a number of reasons:
  • One of the elements of UO is the social connection - if you can place everything on an auction house, and it allows people to not interact, it takes away from a huge element of the game.
  • What about the vendor, who makes his living off of making sure his vendors are stocked daily, he's done it in a pleasing manner for people to purchase, and gates to his vendor every day to ensure people have access? There's an art to running a business.
  • Economy Erosion - by allowing all items to be bought at the cheapest prices easily without any effort to shop around, the price on items can only go one way, down.

This wouldn't bring any gameplay opportunities, in my opinion. I'm opposed to all of these ideas. Discord exists for your real life spammy auction house. UO doesn't need a mindless, anti-social system. Player vendors can be found in some interesting places and adds to the charm of the world. When I can't find something I need in Discord, I know of some high traffic areas I can hit. Maybe I'll even get PKed in the process. I understand the convenience of an auction house but this is the last thing I'd ask the developers to spend time on, especially considering how contrary it is to the spirit of the game.

Hello,
I do what yo say already. Don't go to disorganized vendor houses just because they are cheaper.
I run a game wheel for items yo can win cheaply.
I might do auctions again they are time consuming and labor intensive but fun as hell.

I only make money doing this it is how I spend my play time.

A universal system would do two things. Invalidate my vendor homes, remove the need for sort and sell, butler filling, and all other things.

I would script the auction house and just buy everything under a certain price and repost it for higher. and when no one posts lower I will purchase at the lowest and raise it. No competition, no vendors, no money spent on regs just people buying and reselling.

I am a trader only char, the system works well, a gated to well kept vendor house is where you just need to shop.
