House security. Amazing what we had to live with in those days...
When I started waay back in the day, (tents had recently been removed) I remember standing in the doorway of someone's classic house and using scissors to steal the stack of cloth bolts they had against the back wall (before lock downs). Got halfway through the stack before I realized that the cloth way just stacking at my feet. Next official update and they made it to where you had to have the item in your back in order for you to be able to use scissors on it.
Still have my original game CD with the inch thick instruction manual that still mentions the resource system. Where if too many rabbits are in the area, more wolves will spawn to 'eat' them.

Being a part of the UO journey was like being a part of 2 separate worlds..Earth + Britannia... Just the nostalgia thinking about my first time playing as a noob 15 years ago; the journeys i embarked on, the quests that I conquered, the friends that I've made. I look back on all those memories in the old world and it makes me shed a tear :'( . It's too bad I no longer play :( Now I am merely a part of just one world now. [e cry, [e scream, [e cry, [e punch, [e faint. But for as long as I live I will always know, at one time in a different world far away from my own, I was once the king, truly the best in all of the land, and that will forever be with me.

very true, I had a fight with my ex girlfriend once where she was feeling neglected as I logged in to all of my characters to make sure they were logged out sitting in a chair next to the fire in my house, with shoes on so their feet didn't get cold

she just didn't understand the stress it would cause me knowing some of my UO guys feet could be cold am i right??

I remember that when I was in 7th grade my english sucked so bad. I had no interest in it. Then a teacher at my school introduced me and my friend to Ultima VII (that's where my journey begins). We played it all summer. Then we also played the earlier titles that we could get our hands on plus the Underworld 1 & 2. Ultima VIII was ok, Ultima IX was a disappointment. I remember how excited we were when we found out about UO.

The day UO was released one of my best friends stayed home from school to play, I went to his place after school to play. In the 8 hours he had been playing he had made like 300 gold or something. I made 1000 gold in 10 minutes. I remember him being made about it. :)

My first character was a thief and since then it's been my favourite type of character. Never get's old! ;)

I started playing April 2000 on the Shard Europa. that was when there was no housing allowed on the trammel facet LOL
I even remembered a demonstration of players all wearing red capes in front of WBB to keep the beautiful trammel medows free of houses LOL
And I also remember a player running up to me at Del Bank screaming "there is an old man outside of town trying to kill me"
It turned out the "old man" was a lich from the dead city that followed him lol Well he didnt have a mount hehe

And I also remember my ex gf back then who also played called me from work (she could play from work) for us to meet up in WBB because there is a lizard man invasion
I went to WBB no GF..She called back "where the hell are you"!!!??? I shouted in the telephone "well at brit bank" boring my ass off!!

that cant be she exclaimed!!!

Well it turned out she was in Felucca WBB and I was in Trammel. At that time i had no idea of the facets Trammel and Felucca hehe
Well i called her back and said "hon you are in Fellucca"!!!

She asked: " Fellucca what is that"??

Well I love UO Forever but............I still play the shards Europa and Atlantic from time to time

And i believe not very many here on UOF can say tthat for themseves ;-)

I was quite the opportunist back in the day. Selling fake black dye tubs at brit bank. Having my friend pretend to be a character from one of the major trading websites and stealing a small house from some poor chap.

And then getting a small house on the road to bucs den and tricking people into my house with promises of riches. Just to lock down a table in front of the door and have my buddy pop out from hiding to slay them and stock our vendor.

Having week long campaigns on test center. Especially one christmas morning where my home shard of pacific was the test center. Many a poor soul was slain by me and a few randoms i met up with as we tore from dungeon to dungeon leaving chaos in our wake.

But that was the beauty of oldschool uo. It was cutthroat and an open world that got the adrenaline truly pumping.

But im nice now. And hope to get my stealth guild back up and running with my original plan of helping other blue guilds do some champs and whatnot.

Cheers.

Here's DD on UO's birthday, answering how UO pushed the genre forward 20 years ago:

https://www.raphkoster.com/2017/09/28/ultima-onlines-influence/

Raph concludes with this:

"Ultima Online ... nobody else has managed to make something quite like it. ... So that imperfect, barely functional, insane thing ... It’s twenty years in the past – how implausible! And somehow, it still feels like something always twenty more years in the future."
